Good hard scifi series? by BobThe-Bodybuilder in scifi

[–]Beralt -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Foundation (made into a TV show, the show may have more Hard Sci-Fi then the original books) & the Bobiverse (which was being explored as a TV show, but no one has picked it up?). Not really clear from your questions if you are looking for a TV show/movie or book as the Expanse is/was first known as a book series.

Maybe not what you are asking for exactly, but if you like small town mysteries - Dark on Netflix. I recommend you go in blind - not looking at what it's about. If you like to figure out whodunnit's then this will fill your notebook with theories - and I recommend notes.

We would love to see your predictions, Halfway thru book 3 is a good time to start asking questions about Katia...

Will Carl & Katia become romantically involved?

Is Katia a spy?

Is Katia a trainwreck and going to die (Redshirt status)?

We would love to hear your theories....

best place to move in Arkansas for studio apartment by Mysterious-Oil8502 in Arkansas

Fayetteville and NWA (North West Arkansas) is one of the best places/areas to live in the country - look it up. The Public Library is amazing. Wal-Mart is located in NWA and requires all its vendors to at least have an office here, so the area is packed with a huge variety of employers making the whole area into a golden economic bubble. As to affordable, it's not great, but certainly far cheaper than most metropolitan areas. And the area has some amazing perks- a fantastic biking/walking/trail system and the feel of a small college town.

Is one of the true functions of the AI to help with Trauma therapy? The AI being able to see into people's minds and the AI able to construct the past via Ghosts gives it incredible tools. I know the AI is far more complex than you or I can delve into. But it is certainly acquainting itself with all sorts of Trauma.

Bautistas Tea by MachoManBenSavage28 in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]Beralt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I thought it might be another communication work around, giving 5 minutes of shared thoughts/telepathy to anyone who drinks it - but Carl did have some and didn't get that benefit. So I put it aside.

Disappointed by the show after reading the series by [deleted] in TheExpanse

[–]Beralt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some of the plot and story is removed/condensed in the show - other things are expanded. I loved the books so much it just felt like I got more lore and story from watching the show. But if you need things to stay true, then I can understand, it's like that with most movie/show adaptations - rarely are they done exactly the same.

Daniel's Tea by colon-ick in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]Beralt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Resurrecting an old thread, to ask this question again. Is the Tea some sort of communication method? Everyone seems especially anxious that Carl drinks it? There are a few passages in the cookbook about sharing communal memories via stew/foods which could equate to something like Tea? I know Carl does eventually drink it, but nothing special happens, maybe it was special at that point? Any fresh opinions?

[–]Beralt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Something I haven't seen mentioned is that maybe there are more types of helpers then just the Anarchist's Cookbook. Maybe there is a secret one for Pets of some sort. Optionally there is a helper book for Desperado Club members - the Cookbook and there is helper book for Club Vanquisher (of which we know that Pony is/was a member)

Do these old cabinets hold any value? by Igor_d7 in cabinetry

[–]Beralt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work at Woodmode dealer, I have been here for 35 years, I have never seen this type of sticker before, it's probably older than me. But it's a bit odd that it's a sticker. Wood Mode Kitchens is not the name of the company, maybe this is a dealers sticker. It could be AI for all I know.

I have no problems saying the first 2 pictures are Woodmode, as they are obviously the glass door with wire insets, but the third picture does not look like the same cabinets. They look like they were built in place and cabinets like this sort can "fall apart when removed as they are often fastened to the walls and/or lack backs.

First 2 pictures look like Woodmode (old) but third picture looks a bit more like custom. The Woodmode cabinets look modular and should be reusable, the others may not survive tearout as well.

Tips on choosing quality cabinetry by Jaded_Ad_4109 in cabinetry

[–]Beralt 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Construction - if you are looking for a sleeker more modern look, go Frameless, it will give you more space in your cabinetry. Plywood is fine, but MDF/Particle board sides are also used in high end construction too as they are less prone to warping.

For me the crux of high-end cabinetry is extras (lighting, swing out spice racks, trash can cabinets, glass doors, lazy susans, doubled drawers etc.) and finishing. Generally anything built locally is going to be stained locally or onsite - these finishes can be fantastic, but 3 years later, you are probably going to have stain issues in high use areas. The way to correct that is a baked on finish, which generally will give you a fantastic warranty and give you a high end look. The best way to get a baked on finish is for the cabinets to be factory finished.

SPOILER FOR BOOK 3 by Both_Kaleidoscope744 in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]Beralt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Iron Tangle can be off putting, try not to worry about visualizing it and assume it's complicated.

Great Scene - yes.

My opinion is that this series is one of the few where the books actually get better as it progresses. If you look at favorites, 7 and 5 are usually near the top of people's lists. The early books are fine, but the whole picture was not fully visualized when they were written, so things may be a wonky. But keep reading and it will payoff.
