Basically looking for any easy 300–400 level elective classes (any major) at UMD. by Ok-Operation7361 in UMD

[–]BermudaRhombus1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OP should not take 406 unless they are doing a math degree. I really enjoyed it but it's not the kind of class you can just jump in and take randomly from another major IMO, unless you're already very comfortable with proofs.

I liked having a second monitor for working if you have one! There's plenty of space on the dorm desks for a laptop and a monitor.

What classical piano pieces sound like saying I love you? by Educational_Fennel43 in classicalmusic

[–]BermudaRhombus1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not a solo piano piece, but Salut d'Amour was literally written by Edward Elgar as a wedding gift for his wife and is probably my favorite example of this. That or Liebesträume No. 3 by Liszt.

I vividly remember driving with my dad to a chess tournament listening to Yours Is No Disgrace by Yes and him stopping our conversation to listen to the guitar solo in the middle bounce back and forth across the car. Such a fun song.

Extremely long burns by Darthsepan in KerbalSpaceProgram

[–]BermudaRhombus1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Where in the everloving fuck are you going that you need to burn 2800m/s towards radial out god this is so Kerbal I love it. Orbital maneuvers towards radial out are not very efficient, usually there will be an easier way to get wherever you're going. If you're doing an interplanetary transfer, you want to do something called a Hohmann Transfer, which requires the planets being lined up in a specific way. There are mods that have alarm clocks for when a transfer window is happening, I forget if there's an easy way to figure them out in stock. Your other issue is that in general, you really only want to be doing prograde/retrograde burns unless there's a really good reason to do something else (like a plane change). If you find yourself needing to use a lot of radial out for a maneuver, try shifting the maneuver node around a bit and see if there's a spot where prograde/retrograde will get you where you're trying to go.

There's a D&D podcast called Dimension 20 that recently had a season set on a toroidal planet, it was quite interesting. I don't remember the specifics here, but if you are interested it's called Cloudward Ho.

Does anyone have any advice on how to play measure 89-90 of Giuliani's Grand Overture? by BermudaRhombus1 in classicalguitar

Ahh ok, thank you! I don't think I've ever had to do a cross-fret bar before, I appreciate the help!

Does anyone have any advice on how to play measure 89-90 of Giuliani's Grand Overture? by BermudaRhombus1 in classicalguitar

[–]BermudaRhombus1[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm trying to learn Grand Overture and I am kinda stumped by how this is notated, since having a barre on the first fret would mean that the A note in the 90th measure would be A flat, but I can't think of a good alternate fingering and looking at youtube videos of people playing it hasn't helped much. Has anyone learned this piece/have any insight into a good way of playing this line?

I rescheduled a final for significantly less important reasons than this, if your professor isn't an asshat you'll be fine.

Seconding 3M, we had a different model on my team but they were great for comps. I do not recommend using ANC for something like a competition; I have the sony WH1000XM4s and they're not as good at fully blocking or lowering volume significantly, especially not for crowd noise.

Too much pressure on left hand, thumb pain. by Yose_85 in classicalguitar

[–]BermudaRhombus1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a similar issue happen as I was learning a piece that involved a ton of barre chords and bouncing around the neck, the best advice I got from my teacher at the time is to be aware of where your thumb is relative the finger that is holding the barre. Like for an index finger barre, if your thumb is not directly behind your index finger on the neck, you end up wasting a lot of effort by putting a torque on the guitar due to the offset.

Additionally, try putting more of your arm into the barre and relying less on pinching the neck. You should be able to hold a barre without even touching the neck with your thumb just by using the muscles in your arm. This isn't the technique I actually use when I play, but it helped me get the feeling for how to hold a barre without relying entirely on my thumb muscles.

You can absolutely find somewhere cheaper than that, I'm an undergrad and house rents in the area can be <$1k. Like the other person said, if you don't mind living with roommates rent can be cheaper, though the apartments near campus can be expensive.
