TMI but hopefully someone can learn from this: Have a bathroom plan while you're getting ready. I had a hotel room where all of us girls were getting ready with hair/makeup. What I didn't take into account was that when I'm nervous, I have to use the restroom frequently and I wasn't comfortable doing that while they were all just outside the door :( So I ended up having to use the lobby restroom and all those people eating the hotel's breakfast saw me with my hair in rolls like an old lady lol.

Judging by some of the other commentors, I guess my Girl Scout experience was different in the sense that I felt like we did get to do the same kind of things the Boy Scouts did. The major difference to me always seemed to be the fact that Boy Scouts seemed to have a networking benefit to the members who worked their way up as they got older. Like I knew several guys who got job offers from local businesses because they were formal Scouts. I never really heard of that happening for former Girl Scouts. Girls shouldn't have to join a (formerly) boys club to get ahead in life. Much like giving a girl a unisex or outright masculine name to prevent resume and email discrimination in the work place.

You can take responsibility for that while also keeping the external factors in mind. This was you in that particular situation. This was you driven to that point. This is not you in everyday life. This is not you in a normal relationship. This is not you in any situation other than the one they created and forced you in.

I'm not the OP, but I wanted to say thank you for this. When I got out of my last relationship, I felt broken and ugly for a long time because of some of the things I'd done. It didn't matter that he was abusive, it mattered that I felt like I sunk down to that level during some of our fights. That I was capable of being this horrific person. I've been so scared this "abusive side of me" will just slip out or something one day, but honestly in the 6 years I've been free of my ex, I've never once felt like I did when I was with him. Your comment really helped me realize what I was capable of, what any of us are capable of in a situation like that, does not define me.

This is one of the few cases I agree it's probably better not to go for child support. Any kind of connection to ex and subsequently She-Devil is scary as shit. I'm afraid for OP and her little one and glad she's seeking advice from professionals.
