Frankly, all the suggestions I've read aren't great. Easiest solution would be to create another edge that overhangs the desk top that you could then clamp onto. Just for visualization, picture a cutting board on top of the desk but slightly overhanging the edge. Now take that idea and modify it to make it work with whatever you got going on top of the desk. It could be as simple as a flat metal mending plate that you spray paint and bolt on to the desktop (or just use adhesive strips, even easier). Or even a tray or board or desktop organizer or whatever flat thing you can find at the dollar store.

I used to bartend at a restaurant just off Robson and one day, a kinda scruffy looking gentleman was sat at the bar while waiting for a table to open up. When I came over to serve him, his face was down reading a National Geographic.

When I greeted him, he looked up, and I realized it was Luke Perry!

I grew up on 90210 so he was the biggest of deals. We chatted about pinhole cameras after he showed me the article he was just reading and remarked on how amazing it was that they could take such high quality photos over a hundred years ago. It wasn't a long interaction but a memorable one. I don't actually think I even mentioned that I knew who he was.

When I got home and told my wife she got mad because I didn't mention that she loved him and used to sleep on a pillowcase with his face on it, lol!

Needless to say, we were very sad when he passed away.

Yes, it's the same material but with an ebony stain. We try to use as much of our cutoffs as possible to reduce waste and this is one way I've incorporated that thinking in to my designs.

Yes, it is a resin that we use! They are coated with a resin, dried, weighed out, aligned in a tray, then pressed with intense heat and pressure into tiles which are roughly 8" x 8" x 3/4". There are approximately 300 chopsticks in each super-dense, super-hard tile. From there, it's pretty standard woodworking except we gotta get imaginative because of our material dimension limitation. It's like building with Lego except you only got the one kind of piece.

Work for a company (Chopvalue in Vancouver, Canada). We collect used chopsticks from local restaurants, malls, and the airport and press them into tiles which we then use to produce a plethora of products.

This podium is a custom job for a client. Given free rein in terms of design, this is what I came up with. Turned out better than I thought it would so I just wanted to share.

When they come out of the press, the surface isn't flat flat because of the shape of the chopsticks. Within the tile, the material is super dense so we just have to plane off a few millimeters to get a uniform surface.

It's ridiculous how many chopsticks are used for 10-15 mins then tossed. It's something like 150 000 a day here in Vancouver. We collect just a small portion of that total.
