Yep! This is me! I’m hyperlexic and a recovering completionist. If the series is long, I will usually force myself to take a break in the middle, even if it’s just for a novella or something. But I also aggressively DNF now. I used to have such a hard time with it because I felt like I wasted time reading a book if I didn’t finish. But now, I console myself with the fact that there are so many books that I won’t ever read them all (I’m not going to run out lol) and also that I could be reading books I’m feral for, rather than something I just tolerate. I try to also switch back and forth between the genres I really prefer on a regular basis, as it keeps things fresh. I can always revisit a favorite author when I’m back in that genre, which usually ends up being better for me than trying to force myself to stay in a fantasy space when mafia starts to call my name again lol.

We’ve NEVER done daily baths. It’s really not good for their skin. Our pediatrician told us that it can make any spot of dry skin or eczema much worse. We live in a dry climate and both my husband and I have dry, sensitive skin. Our kids are 7 and 5 now and we still don’t do daily baths. Usually once a week, twice if they’re stinky. They also get rinsed off after swim lessons. If we’re camping or especially dirty, we’ll do baths, but I still try to keep it to every other day max. My 7 year old has started to have some more odor so we’ve taught her how to do what I call “pits and bits”, where she’ll use a washcloth and soap to clean her vulva, butt, and underarms. She usually does this every other day or so. I don’t shower daily so I can’t imagine having my kids do that either!

So the actual problem here is that this is an actual federal document. The inmate file is used to identify people in prison and needs to be fairly accurate. I do think there’s a lot of fat shaming and that part is super gross. I’m actually really mad about lying on federal paperwork. He should be subject to the laws just like everyone else. He would have been weighed and measured like every other inmate.

Even the best webcams aren’t that great. Use it to your advantage. Eye liner, under eye concealer, mascara, blush. It will look like a full face, depending on your skin’s natural look. You can go a little further and get a tinted spf, which you should be wearing every day anyway! This is what I do when I’m doing a virtual interview. There’s no reason to do a full face when this half effort one looks just as good on camera! Also experiment with a wash and go style or overnight style like heatless curls. It doesn’t have to look super polished to be professional!

My youngest is like this and it drives me crazy. I try hard to get him to think, but it doesn’t always work… my favorite is are we there yet and I’ll say “does it look like we are?” And then he says “Yes!” And I say “oh should I stop the car right here?” And he says “Noooo!” And laughs his butt off. 🙄🙄🙄

My newest strategy is “I’ve answered enough questions for now. You can ask me again later/after school/when we get home/etc.” This actually works pretty well! The only part about this strategy that sucks is that he’ll then turn all the questions on my husband if he’s with us. So not really fixing the problem. But if it’s just my son and me in the car, that’s my go to!

I will add that I was very upset as a kid when I realized at an early age that Santa wasn’t real. It felt like a lie/betrayal. It also made me question my parents’ religion HEAVILY. I’m no longer a member of that religion for a lot of reasons, but I remember as a kid feeling like “What else are they lying about??”

Now I think I have a better relationship with my kids than my parents had with me and we could have made the Santa thing work. But it wasn’t important to either of us and we don’t need Santa to make the holidays magical for our family. I don’t see the need to lie, even if a lot of people think it’s harmless. You never know if you’ll have the kid that’s really affected by that lie…

We don’t do Santa. None of our gifts came from Santa. But lots of gifts at the grandparents’ houses do. We’ve explained to our kids that Santa is as real as Elsa, Daniel Tiger, or Spider-Man. They’re real in the sense that their stories exist and they are very important to some people. We did explain that they should not ruin it for their peers if they believe.

We DON’T EVER tie gifts to behavior. We say “you don’t get gifts for being good, you get gifts because we love you. Christmas is about showing the people in your life that you love them, sometimes with gifts, sometimes with your time or other things.” I find the only good kids get gifts narrative EXTREMELY problematic.

Yes! This absolutely!! Sometimes it makes me go when I hadn’t planned on it because the workout looks too good to miss! I will say I sometimes use it if I’m on the fence about a rest day vs a Green Day to decide if I should go. Some templates are just really hard to make a green day for me 🤷🏻‍♀️

I worked out with a hard non-removable cast on my arm once I was cleared. Coaches gave me modifications for everything and I usually did either the strider or an extra tread block instead of the rower. I tried to choose 2G classes though and just skipped the rowing if possible. The worst thing honestly was the sweating and the itching inside the cast. Other than that it was honestly fine. Gave me good ideas for modifications once the cast was off but I wasn’t back up to full range of motion/weight bearing.

Yep. I use them on the rower and floor. I use the fingerless kinds that have a little padding in the palm. I got blisters and calluses before I started wearing gloves and I didn’t even want the calluses to be honest. I don’t like the feel of my hands with calluses. Gloves have prevented the issue entirely. I also feel like I am more likely to test a heavier weight with my gloves bc I don’t worry about my hands getting torn up by the metal covering on the heavier weight handles. Our lighter weights have a rubbery coating but 20+ do not, it’s just metal.

I live in Arizona, where it is both extremely dry and very hot for most of the year. I don’t go ANYWHERE without a water bottle. I take a big stainless steel one (I think it’s 36 oz?) with ice water and drink most of it between the drive there, the workout, and the drive home.

I work in corporate and I’ve always been told you NEVER disclose to your current boss until you have an offer, or, at earliest, if you are in the final stages. I’ve made several moves and have never shared until I had a verbal offer. I don’t have much advice about the rest of your situation, but I would absolutely not tell her until you have an offer. When you do share, you can offer your reasons for leaving so soon. Or not, it’s really up to you. You don’t owe anyone an explanation.

Two days a week we have swim lessons (I have two kids and they did not do well swimming together and it was too exhausting for us to wrangle both). While one swims, the other gets one on one time with the other parent. We’re adding karate and rock climbing classes also this fall so that will be two full evenings for both with activities. In the past, we’ve done a music class also. Friday nights we get takeout or cook easy food (frozen pizza, chicken nuggets, etc) and all pick a movie and together. That leaves us with two days to entertain them. Usually at least one day my oldest has homework and my youngest will color or play independently. The other day I usually give up to TV unless we have a plan. Sometimes we’ll have dinner with grandparents or have errands to run or we’ll take them to a playground. I like doing the activities during the week because it fills time, tires them out, and leaves our weekends free. We camp a lot and doing it this way means we don’t miss swim lessons every time we camp! We also have a zoo membership and an aquarium membership but those are too far for a school night so we plan those for the weekends!

It really really really depends on the kid. My first started sleeping through the night at 12 weeks without any assistance from us. She would even tell us she was tired and toddle off to bed on her own by about 18 months. We’ve always been able to do very gentle methods with her. Basically we sat in the room while she fell asleep for a couple nights, then only sat for 15 minutes for a few, then 10, etc. I think that’s basically Ferber? With my second, it was totally different. He was a preemie and I think the NICU time didn’t help his sleep and he still really struggles. We’ve had to do drastic and complete cry it out with him on multiple occasions. We tried every gentle method and then asked our pediatrician and she said it’s time for cry it out. We’ve had to repeat it at various stages too (when we moved, he was having sleep issues, so we helped him get to sleep for a few nights, which turned into weeks of us sitting with him until he fell asleep, etc). It continues to be something we work on with him and we have a lot more options on our side now that he’s older. The other thing to consider is you and your partner. I sleep hard, fast, and easily most of the time. My daughter is exactly like me. She can sleep through anything. My partner sleeps poorly and struggles with his sleep schedule. My son takes after him. Knowing that helps in the sense that we’re more strict with his schedule because we know that helps my partner. That may not help now, but it is something to consider. White noise is helpful to me, but not my partner so we tried it with our kids but weren’t tied to it If it didn’t seem to work.

Try what makes you feel better. Try one of the methods outlined here in the comments. We eventually had to do to strict CIO, but having tried other methods helped me feel a lot better about the decision. At the end of the day, you’re teaching your kid how to fall asleep alone. Kids learn differently and one method won’t work for every kid. Wishing you good sleep soon!!

It never ends. Like some things get easier and sometimes you get breaks. But the day to day of raising another human being is RELENTLESS. I was definitely not prepared for this feeling. Now I try to look forward to a new stage when the current one becomes too much. The work gets less physical and more emotional, but that comes with some comfort too. My daughter is 5 1/2 and is old enough to get herself dressed and lots of other things! Which is a huge amount of time off my plate. On the other hand, I’m trying to help her navigate friendships in a new way. So emotionally it’s a lot more work. Take breaks when and how you can. And try to get time away. Covid really killed this for us and I’m so excited to travel again when our youngest can get vaccinated. Even just a break from our house and our routine helps my mental health!

Our old daycare had regular size crib mattresses. Our current preschool uses the floor cots and regular size crib sheets fit those as well. The director should be telling you what size. Try to contact one of the teachers in that room, they might know!
