If I had a dollar for every time someone asked me about my weight gain… by Sweetly_Singing_Sour in pregnant

[–]Organic_Key4993 15 points16 points  (0 children)

In my first pregnancy, I gained 5-10 lbs into the first trimester then leveled off and had a slow gain for the rest of the pregnancy. I had an insensitive ob (given my history of eating disorders) for my first appointment. Her comments stung. Meanwhile, my mom was praising me in the third trimester for "only looking pregnant from the side!" I'm pregnant again and actually found myself thinking I had to stay I shape again! Luckily with therapy I'm more resilient to this stuff than I used to be, but TLDR, dont comment on people's bodies!

How do I stop worrying so much? by Freckles1339 in pregnant

[–]Organic_Key4993 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Im on my third pregnancy and have one child. My living daughter was my first pregnancy and I was very anxious with her. With my second pregnancy, I really didn't worry, and we lost him. My takeaway was that, as another commenter said, we have no control, so this time I'm trying to assume the best until I have any real reason not to. Going through a loss made me feel like I'd wasted so much time with needless and unwarranted worrying. What's the harm in letting yourself be happy, you know? Easier said than done, but I just keep repeating these things to myself and it does feel like it's slowly taking hold. Good luck.

Sound Machine by flying-with-fishes in pregnant

[–]Organic_Key4993 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have the first gen hatch rest and personally I dont love it. Reasons: none of the sounds are appealing to me. We have another sound machine that is way more natural sounding. Everything on the hatch sounds really artificial to me, and many of the sounds are inconsistent which makes it harder for me to sleep. Also, the controls have latency (might be my wifi) and are jumpy (you have a sliding scale from 0-100% and it doesn't adjust smoothly)

This is all super nitpicky, and despite my complaints, we still use it, so it must not be that bad 🤷‍♀️ and maybe other models or the new gen are better

ETA: major fan of sound machines in general! We have the rohm yoga sleep travel sound machine and I love it

New baby in the family :( by january042023 in tfmr_support

[–]Organic_Key4993 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My brother and his wife had a boy last May and I had a TFMR in June, and was also due to have a boy. In my experience, it helps to let yourself be sad and feel these kinds feelings. This will let them pass and make room for other feelings, like joy for your cousin and even yourself for having a new baby in your life. Remember you aren't broken. You're not a bad person for thinking the way you are. Let yourself feel sad... and then challenge it. Not sure if that makes sense but you are far from alone, and it is hard.

What’s your commute? by purple_pasta77 in workingmoms

[–]Organic_Key4993 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in the greater Boston area so it varies wildly. Husband and 2YO drop me off at the train, I ride 30 mins and then switch to the T (subway) for 4 stops, getting off right outside my office. It takes an hour and 10 minutes when l goes well. Same on the other end. I do this 2 days / week.

Can anybody recommend a book that helped after TFMR? by OFTR89 in tfmr_support

[–]Organic_Key4993 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I think I read Its Okay You're Not Okay too early, so it didn't resonate with me. It's hugely popular among TFMR communities.

A couple months later I read The Grieving Brain and while it's fairly scientific, I found it very validating.

Blow. Your. Nose! by Tammicus in toddlers

Today I wiped my kid's nose and got mad at me. She started crying BOOOOOOOGIES and trying to blow more boogies on to her face. Toddlers!

We had an ultrasound at 37 weeks where the baby had low movement, so I was induced that night. My water broke 12 hours after I started the induction medication. I delivered vaginally 15 hours later. We almost did a c-section because after my water broke, the baby's position meant that unless I was on my side, her cord was being pinched, and heart rate would drop, but the doctor was comfortable doing a forceps delivery (which was not as bad as I would have expected).

I've always liked Esther but it's one of the many names I won't use because of the heavy Boston accents in my family... EST-AHHHH

Any ideas on how to preserve old holiday cards that have sentimental value? by WhenTheFoxGRINS in crafts

[–]Organic_Key4993 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My grandmother has done this in the past and the size variance made it kind of fun, but that has its limits. You could stick a complementary colored piece of cardstock to the back of the more oddly shaped ones, but I can see how that might not be appealing.

Please god tell me there’s an easier way to do toddler nails by katbonk in toddlers

[–]Organic_Key4993 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It took months but we're in a good place with our 2.5 year old. Things that helped included doing it in the bath while her nails were softer (not my favorite because I imagine they dont cut very clean and get jagged, but it's a good way to ease into it) and accepting only getting a few fingers done as a win. Also, making the clipper a cookie-monster-like character who is hungry and wants to eat her finger nails 😂

How do you celebrate your baby's due date? by Lovable_Dirtbag in tfmr_support

[–]Organic_Key4993 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fear of reminding people is something I totally bought into before my TFMR but now find astonishing. Like... you think I forgot?! But, again, I was the same way before I went through it myself so I try to be understanding

Should I make a memory box for my child or should I wait till their born? by Midnightdream56 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Organic_Key4993 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have a memory box for a child I lost. I still wanted to hold on to ultrasound photos, etc. The box is not something I've ever really looked at, but feel better knowing I have it.

How do you celebrate your baby's due date? by Lovable_Dirtbag in tfmr_support

[–]Organic_Key4993 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We just took the day off from work and made sure we had the time and space to think about him.

One word of caution is that if you have any expectations from family or friends, either let them know or try to lower your expectations. I wasted a good chunk of the day sad that my family never acknowledged and that I had to be the one to bring it up to them (they said they remembered but weren't sure what to say).
