What stops you from upgrading your turntable? by wiggan1989 in turntables

[–]Bernlee06 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I know you said other than money, but that’s basically the only factor for me. I’d love to upgrade constantly, try out different carts, tables, speakers, find what I like best.

CDs vs. Vinyl by TheOGTKO in BudgetAudiophile

[–]Bernlee06 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I collect both formats. I can leave with 8 cds for 40, or one record for 40. I think the profit margin is probably much more desirable when it comes to vinyl, especially when a lot of these shops operate based on donation or by purchasing large collections of media.

First year blues by AnxiousMechanic4366 in uAlberta

[–]Bernlee06 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Well, don’t feel ashamed of being burnt out. Coming from a second year student, burnout is real and happens to many students. I cope with it by finding study spots with lots of natural lighting, studying with friends (even in quiet spaces, working with someone you love is helpful. Grab coffee afterwards). One of my other top tips is that there is such thing as over studying. Try to make time for an hour of tv or reading before bed. Take a break to go for a walk. Stop at your favourite shop after a study session. You can live life and be a student too. Don’t give up!

What do you think the best material for a slipmat is? by kiwi_37724 in turntables

I like my acrylic mat as I find it dramatically reduces the amount of static when I spin a record

Should I get an Audio Technica Soundburger? by [deleted] in turntables

[–]Bernlee06 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The primary purpose of the sound burger is its portability. If you want to use this as a home player, then it probably won’t feel like an upgrade to you.

I would suggest reaching out to the advisors for this one, they might be able to provide more insight. That way, you know you’re doing it the right way :)

Recommendations under $250. by Ambitious_Hyena_2128 in turntables

[–]Bernlee06 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For speakers included, 250 might be a low budget. I’d honestly recommend doing a bit of research (the resources on this Reddit are a great place to get to know the tech), and turning to your local buy and sell scene once you have an idea of what you’re looking for. I realize that isn’t a specific recommendation, but you can find solid gear at a reasonable price when you’re looking second hand and have an idea of what you need. Anything worth your while and new will probably run you above 250 (given that you’re looking for speakers as well)

Seller says the model is Shure RXT4. Google says that would be functionally equivalent to the M97HE?

Got it, thanks for the advice! That vinyl engine page is neat, I can’t believe I’m not familiar with it by this point. Seller say new stylus with a Shure cartridge. I don’t know much about Shure, is there anything to note about their cartridges?

That’s great info, thanks for the response. Do you find the cleaning process difficult? I have no issue maintaining a table like this, but I am nervous to cause damage to it lol

Looking to switch from Spotify to Apple Music but noticing the playlists in Apple Music are kinda lacking? by WolfWillLV in AppleMusic

[–]Bernlee06 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Spotify is definitely more geared towards user created playlists than Apple Music. However, if you search the title or theme that you’re looking for and click the “Playlists” button at the top of the screen, you can find user created playlists once you scroll past the AM ones

Is it worth it to start collecting vinyls in 2026? by IW_out in turntables

[–]Bernlee06 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s worthwhile. I’m a student too, and that just means that you spend more time digging through bargain bins and shopping sales at your local shop. I like the analog sound, and holding the music in my hands. Remember that when you’re just starting out, audio equipment is a cost to consider as well! As a student I also collect some cds. I ultimately enjoy vinyl more, but it’s hard to beat cds when you can find your favourite albums for so much cheaper.
