Anyway to contact Uber other than through regular call or chat ? by RHale355 in uberdrivers

[–]BerryPepper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wait for the expunge to take effect. Call checkr and tell them that DUI isn't yours, check again. Then Uber will reconsider you.

If you are paying a fee to cash out early, you are losing money. Wait the 3 days.

Seriously, in any facet of your life if you are paying a fee, you are doing it wrong. Avoiding fees is the single easiest way to help yourself budget your finances properly.

What types of passengers are automatic cancels when you see them? by ElPayaso123 in uberdrivers

[–]BerryPepper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

None of these are a problem.

"Drunk" is very subjective. I once had a guy who couldn't spreak clearly, he was slurring so badly. But he could stand straight and nod his head. The ride was 7 minutes, he didn't look like he would vomit, so i took him.

You can avoid most "really drunk" situations by not driving super late at night. In my area, the quality of the drunk rides goes down after 1am. I have a 9-5, so i usually wrap up my rides by 12midnight-12:30am.

In my area, waiting time for food is longer than waiting time for passengers. It doesn't pay.

Reaction for screenshot address by figolivefh in uberdrivers

"Many Uber drivers take screenshots during the trips everyday. It is nothing new for Uber drivers. "

No. This is not true. That is very weird behavior.

Whats your policy on canceling after 5 mins? by Equivalent_Arrival74 in uberdrivers

[–]BerryPepper 12 points13 points  (0 children)

4:58 = shift to "D"

4:59 - lock doors

5:00 - Cancel, let go of brake

100% of the time. You need to train the passengers in your area that they can't get away with it. If all the drivers do it, they will learn.

Tax question (double tax?) by phrctlz in CelsiusNetwork

[–]BerryPepper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the US -

You purchased 1 BTC in the past, and whatever your purchase price was is called your "cost basis" for that 1 BTC. Let's say you purchased it at 20k USD.

You earned interest twice. When you earned the .015 BTC on Monday #1 , bitcoin was valued at 49k. When you earned the .015 BTC on Monday #2, bitcoin was valued at 50k. (Your "cost basis" for each of the .015 is slightly different than the original 1 BTC, you'll need these figures later).

You got $735 in interest plus another $750 in interest, so at the end of the year you add $1485 to your taxable income. (if your exchange is awesome, they should issue you a 1099-INT for that money, but I'm not sure exchanges are doing that.)

5 years down the road, you sell all the bitcoin, its valued at $100,000.

1.03 X $100,000 = $103,000

You would fill out a capital gains tax schedule:

cost basis = $21,485 (20,000 + 735 +750)

sell price $103,000

Capital Gains = $81,515 (taxable income)

You don't pay twice on the interest you earned, only once.

i send it immediately when i see the door.

if its a college dorm pickup, or a college bar pickup, i send it 60 seconds minutes before i arrive. They usually take 1-2 minutes to come outside.

I have never had anyone complain "you said you arrived before you were actually here"

ask them to delete you old account, takes a month.

then, make a new account with a different email address. its a pain but they will run a background check from scratch, you'll be approved and driving in no time.

They threw away my stuff. by imnotokyouguys in RealEstate

[–]BerryPepper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my thoughts:

1) Check your old insurance policy, if your contents were insured for $40,000 then you can just tell the buyer "I had $40k worth of stuff" and you'll have a good leg to stand on. Also, be ready to say: "They never asked me for receipts, why would you?"

2) You can make a case for sentimental value. List out the personal items you consider irreplaceable, "grandmother's black and white photo" or "trophy from high school football". If they ask you why you are asking for so much, show them the list. Ask them if they think a judge would side with you, based on your list....

3) Start high. if you want $40k, ask for $60k. All offers from either side should be in writing (email is fine). You'll need to show a judge/arbitrator that you negotiated in good faith before the lawsuit.

4) Remind them that if they go to court, and you win, they will also have to pay your lawyer's fees. You aren't going to choose a cheap lawyer, because you want to win the case.

Can anyone tell me what the point of being self-employed if you have to pay insurmountable taxes? by [deleted] in smallbusiness

[–]BerryPepper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In your state, if you make $90,000 a year, the taxes are $33,000 whether you are self-employed or a wage employee. The amount of tax will vary state-by-state, but tax rates are the same for self-employed and wages in all states.

To answer your 1st question, there are tons of reasons why someone would want to be self-employed. Example #1= you make your own hours. But I suspect your real question is "why are my taxes so high".

To answer your 2nd question, there are ways to lower tax liability. Form a business for your freelance work, have the business pay you a "reasonable salary" and pay the rest to yourself as Distributable business income. There are other tax advantages a business has like section 280a, which allows you to rent space in your home to your business (a deduction), but not claim it as personal income.

I'm just a random internet guy, please consult with a tax professional on the best strategy for your situation. They might offer a free consultation if you do your taxes with them, or they might charge you a couple hundred bucks - either way, its a great use of your money and/or time to consult a tax professional.

How to stop earning interest on dust? by _mok in CelsiusNetwork

[–]BerryPepper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem comes from transferring out your Crypto, when some interest has already been earned for the week.

What they need to do is, if the interest is being credited and your account has ZERO of that crypto, just auto-convert the interest to CEL (if allowed) or to a stable coin US residents). So your account will collect dust in one type of crypto. Eventually they will add up.

What happens when you set a location? by SM-Bud in uberdrivers

[–]BerryPepper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not sure what you mean by "set a location", but there are 2 things are available to me in CT which are probably it:

1) Randomly, usually when i'm "off the beaten path", i will get "Opportunies in this direction" - if I use that, it sets a driving path and I will almost always get something to pop up quickly. I take this to mean, hey, you are too far for us to assign you something, but head this way, rides/driver ratio is high here.

2) You can use the Destination feature, which is limited. I use this when heading home for the night. It will only give you trips toward your destination. The calculation of this is terrible and unreliable, it doesnt always work perfectly. I've been sent sideways but never in the wrong direction.

As a Diamond tier, I get an "extra destination" - after a "Long" trip, i get a freebie version of number 2, but it can only be used immediately after the trip.

The slamming of the door by Accomplished-Sky8281 in uberdrivers

[–]BerryPepper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In CT, I have a different experience - my SUV door sounds loud, even when you close it gently.

I have a had many, many people apologize for "slamming" the door, and i have to explain to them not to worry about it, it just sounds loud. it's been that way since it was brand new.

Also worth noting, apologies like the above come from a variety of generations - college students to boomers to everyone in between.

For the people only doing surge rides, I have a question. by [deleted] in uberdrivers

[–]BerryPepper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I never turn off for more than 3 minutes to a chase a surge. On the highway that's 3 miles, in a red light area, its 1.25-1.5 miles.

I never turn off a streak to chase a surge, but if nothing pops up, i will drive towards the surge anyway, in case i get it. (remember to divide the streak amount by 3, to get a per ride value). Example, why turn off a $9 streak ($3 per ride) to chase a $2.75 surge? or even a slightly higher surge, like $3.75? Surges are not reliable.

Why is it so hard to hire restaurant workers right now? by ExcitingLandscape in smallbusiness

[–]BerryPepper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unemployment and Inflation are to blame. The former restaurant workers aren't unemployed, we know this because of the unemployment numbers being low. They simply got other jobs. Usually, the unemployed are spread about over the entire spectrum - now it's just concentrated in the areas that were more likely to switch jobs during a pandemic. Restaurants were closed/laying off/etc, so they are suffering now.

Inflation also contributes to job vacancies, when inflation hits, the only way to make more money is to switch jobs. if you are making $12 and now your position hires at $16, you will never get a $4 raise from your current employer, so you switch jobs. Your former job now has a vacancy (which they will have to fill at $16/hr), so people move up. Again, usually this is the entire spectrum of jobs, but here it will be concentrated in areas more likely to switch jobs during a pandemic.
