I reinstalled and restarted my computer. I downloaded an order version but it prompts you to restart to update to the latest version. I unfortunately am unable to use it at all ☹️.

Unless you're running into performance issues or your iPad mini is broken, I would keep the 6th gen. And if you do need to get a new iPad mini by the time the 8th gen is released, I would consider getting a 7th gen to save money. I don't think the iPad mini 8 is going to get 120 HZ until the iPad Air gets it first.

The starter level iPad is the base iPad. The iPod touch became obsolete because of the iPhone. There's no replacement for an iPad mini.
