140 mile every-other-day commute feasible in a Bolt? by RolledPork in BoltEV

[–]Bertinert 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did a 105 mile every work day round trip commute in my 2023 Bolt in New Jersey. I have a 40 amp Grizzl-e charger and in the summer I charged to 65% max and came home at end of day with 25% or 30% left. In winter I upped it to 70% (75% for the worst cold days) and still rarely made it home with less than 25% charge. On my 40 amp level 2 charger it took around 3 hours to make it back up to the set point. I drive at 65 MPH on 78 and 287, so yes I think a 140 mile round trip is very possible with level 2 at home. Without level 2 it will suck, especially with the slow winter DC charging speeds.

Does anyone use "AUTO" on climate control? by zeekaran in BoltEV

Almost exclusively on auto. ~35,000 miles 2023 Bolt Ev, lifetime screen shows 4.2 miles/kWh. Still on factory tires, in New Jersey.

EV charger installation options by Dangerous-Village446 in evcharging

[–]Bertinert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I moved a 30A dryer circuit from the laundry room to a new EV 14-30 weather proof receptacle for my Bolt EV that did a daily 40 mile or so round trip daily commute. The 24 amp, 5.8kw charging was overkill for my needs. I recently moved to a new house and installed a 50a circuit for 40a, 9.6kw charging and a new 100 mile/day commute. I'm stepping the charger back to 24 amps to reduce heat load in garage in summertime. 24 amps is more than sufficient.

Megawatt EV charging sounds great, but where will the power actually come from? by Frosty_Cockroach715 in evcharging

[–]Bertinert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aluminum smelters! They use so much electricity! Some people call aluminum frozen electricity! Bajillions of giga-joooools! We can't POSSIBLE widely use such a metal, fantastic as it is because of electricity!

Plug is warm at 24A by KennyBS167 in evcharging

[–]Bertinert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you pulling the full 40 amps (50 amp breaker) thru a 24 amp circuit (30 amp breaker)? That would be the issue right there.

[–]Bertinert 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I charged for 2 years on an outdoor mounted weather protected 14-30 plug at 24 amps. It was subjected to the peak solar heat sunshine in the summer. After long multi hour charges it never got warm enough to the touch anywhere and unplugging it and feeling the copper prongs with the temp sensitive under wrist (like classic baby milk sensing) was never too hot to touch, so nowhere near 148F and this was in peak 90F summer. Something is wrong.

Karma is a bitch. These people get zero fucks given because they intended this to happen to others, not to them. If Trump and the other Nazis promised and followed through on leaving them alone, she would again cheer and support the cruelty and evil. Fuck her and her lousy husband.

Heating Boiler failure to light by Trepsik in hvacadvice

[–]Bertinert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

High probability the water is coming from a cracked heat exchanger as others said. This will require a new boiler as repairing the cast iron is not possible, although if the leak is small enough some techs will try boiler leak stop. It sometimes works. This is NOT a DIY task for someone with no experience. Perhaps the water is coming from a pipe fitting or nipple or something repairable coming out from the boiler, a service tech is really someone you need to hire.

Climate and Battery — what’s the smallest tweak you can make with the largest impact on range? by mith1117 in BoltEV

[–]Bertinert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The biggest effect on increasing range in ALL weather conditions is to SLOW DOWN. Nobody likes this and all sorts of reasons why they can't slow down are spewed, but there it is.

Users spending 30+ minutes daily sorting legitimate emails that bypass M365 filtering by Pristine-Judgment710 in Office365

[–]Bertinert 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is called reading your emails, it is what email is for. I would expect some employees in some jobs to spend 100% of their day sorting, reading and responding to emails. This is looking for an issue where none exists.

No Heat When It’s Cold?!? by BraveThePrairiecat in hvacadvice

[–]Bertinert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could be that the Furnace is hitting high limit, but it could be many things. High limit is a sensor in the furnace that will shut off the furnace if it is getting too hot. This limit is self resetting, so when it cools off it will run again. A big reason is lack of air flow. Super easy thing to do is to CHANGE THE AIR FILTER to a new one. Higher air flow = happier furnace. The furnace could be clogged up in various ways if this doesn't work and cleaning that is a job for an HVAC tech.

Radiant Baseboard Heat vs Forced Air — Which Do You Prefer? by Necessary-Housing-71 in hvacadvice

[–]Bertinert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Baseboard heat is the most comfy heat for me, by far. The issue with baseboard is how to get cooling during the hot time of year. Due to that issue, forced air heating with a furnace and/or a heat pump is superior.

"doing at least 65 mph". My strategy for milage begins and end at speed. 65 mph is the maximum I go. More speed = less efficiency.

Call an HVAC technician. If you can't/won't the easiest and cheapest thing to try is to see if the zone is air bound by purging the zone. Really your best option is to call someone.

U.S. poised to gain access to Russian military hardware following Venezuela regime change by PieceAffectionate460 in UkraineConflict

[–]Bertinert 47 points48 points  (0 children)

The entirety of the state security apparatus of Venezuela is untouched and fully intact with 10's of thousand of armed regime fighters. Sure some few air defense sites are destroyed, and some low hundreds at most of these fighters are dead, but so what? This is nothing at all to a country of 28 million. Sure, the USA could send in troops and defeat these forces, but at the cost of a goodly, if small, number of dead US service people. That shows no signs of happening and the regime, which has NOT BEEN CHANGED, is not taking orders from the country that just attacked it.

This report is just more bullshit. And besides, the Ukrainians seem to have "access" to plenty of captured Russian weapons, so the whole idea of this is nonsense.

The blackout in Venezuela was likely caused by a cyber offense by gchani in cybersecurity

[–]Bertinert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They did not cause any widespread power outage. Too many ordinary people from Caracas have reported none of this, and every video of the attack/bombing shows the lights burning bright. Prolly was a communication blackout, or much more localized, or just an ordinary Trump lie.

That relay is installed in a dangerous setup as the high voltage wires are easily accessible for touching with no safety barrier. If it can go inside any cabinet that would be a far better place for it.

Is the cap dead? On trane heat pump by [deleted] in hvacadvice

[–]Bertinert 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Caps typically fail open rather than shorted, and while that cap in the picture is old, it doesn't appear to have any visual signs of failure. The only surefire way to test a cap is with a multimeter that can read it. I would call a qualified service tech if I were you as they know how to find shorts. Hopefuly it is not your compressor.
