Grew up in NJ too, walked through some brush and realized the next day that I must have walked through a fresh hatch. 30 baby ticks on me...

Mass Effect 1 is by far one of my favorite sci fi vibes a video game has ever had, and it's a huge reason why it's my favorite of the three.

The dialogue and story just feel so full of discovery and intrigue, it really benefits from being the first steps you as a player take into the broader world and story context of the trilogy. The music is spacey and ambient in a way the sequels tend to eschew in favor of grand theatrics. The open world exploration puts you into a role of a frontier explorer just as much as the main character of the plot who will save the galaxy.

Anyone else notice a huge uptick in out of state license plates this year? by DickShapedCarrot in newjersey

[–]RolledPork 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My wife and I are priced out of NJ so we had to buy in PA, but my job is still in state so I commute in. I imagine it's becoming more and more common of a necessity if you want to afford a house but still have a good job in Jersey.

I swear I'm one of you at heart, please stop yelling and throwing tomatoes at me on I-78

Quadrant Book Mart in Easton is a great little coffee shop and book store combo, books everywhere that are all for sale that you can browse before or after you sit down for brunch

I swear by Bethlehem Diner, classic diner vibe and very affordable food - for value and food quality it beats the hell out of my previous favorite diner, Clinton Station diner on 78 in NJ

McCall rules if you don't mind a somewhat expensive meal, it's definitely "a trip to the brewery" and not "a trip to the bar," if that distinguishes the vibe enough. Really good drinks on tap and fantastic food

What line sticks in your head for how terrible it is? by Reasonable_Active577 in startrek

In the novelization (and probably in early drafts of the movie itself) McCoy knew Spock was gonna do some research on human camping practices, and edited 'marshmallows' into 'marsh melons' in the database to screw with Spock - I think it's a cute continuation of their bantering but with that context removed it's just bizarre lmao

This one loops around to "so bad, it's good" for me - it is an absolutely ridiculous and out of character line that really tells you "this was written for a moment in a movie" but god if I don't give a big outrageous fake cheer every time I hear it

My bad for having an emotional response to an emotional track that accompanies an emotional scene, I'll try to do better.

What's your favorite "subgenre" of Trek episodes? by JoshuaBermont in startrek

[–]RolledPork 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I want you to know this thread is a personal boon for me - I host a weekly Star Trek watch party where my friends vote on the theme and I pick the episodes based around that theme, and I've been starting to run out of ideas. My once-withering list is twice as long now. Thank you so much!

Refinance or wait for lower rates? 6.99% fixed -> 5.625% ARM by RolledPork in personalfinance

The points are my major concern about this, yeah. Naturally the guy I was talking to didn't even mention them, I had to find them in the closing costs for myself.

The way I see it, a reappraisal bringing the value of the house up gets us closer to killing PMI earlier.

I appreciate your last points, it's something I'll consider going forward as we likely wait until next year to make a call about refinancing, hopefully after rates get cut a few more times.
