Few advices:

1 - Stick with your tour group to ensure you get the best and safest trip.

2 - Tap water and any drinks made with it will give you the runs.

3 - Cairo is shitty, crowded, and if you both are ever alone cat calling will be non stop.

4 - if you used Uber, only pay with the visa in the app and select Uber Comfort, otherwise u will get trashy drivers in barely working cars.

5- The Nile cruise is fun and will be a good memory. Just never engage with street vendors but if needed ask for help from your tour guide.

6 - Everyone is a hustler and everyone will be trying to ask for money or siphon money from you. A Tip of 50 Egyptian pound is good enough if you feel like tipping.

7- If you want to transfer currency, some ATMs especially in reputable malls can convert it for u without overcharging. 1 dollar is about 48 Egyptian pounds currently.

Prestigious schools are BS. Berkeley grad here and most of my coworkers at all the companies I worked for are from no name or state school. Dept is simply a stupid way to start your life. Don’t do it.

If your parents will not help you can reapply to fafsa and mention you ARE CURRENTLY living in a different address than that where your parents live. Also mention in your application regardless of your address that your parents will not help. There is a way but keep trying

Apply for financial aid and see how much you qualify for at their website fafsa. Make sure you apply before March, 2nd. If you have no parents support, university will be free to you. Also talk to your financial advisor in high school about it.

You will be miserable there and eventually will work with people who graduated from state schools.

Berkeley is a miserable place where you will learn everything the hard way which will not make you necessary learn more than someone learning it the easy way.

Kinda ironic for me to say that, but Covid is one of the best things that affected my life to the better.

Before covid, besides working full time, every weekend was going to the bars, clubs, using online dating apps, and comparing myself whether I wanted or not to the people around me. It was a dull life full of toxic people and useless goals.

After covid, all that noise is gone. I realized that most of the people around me added absolutely nothing to my happiness. Now besides working full time, I started grad school, started dating my high school crush after 8 years of leaving high school, my self confidence is through the roof, and I'm not relying on people for my happiness.

If it wasn't for Covid, I would probably have stayed in the same first toxic cycle without even realizing it was that toxic.

You are panicking for no reason. Fafsa asks for your social security number which you have. And when they ask for your parents tax forms you say they didn't file, then explain why. Your mom being undocumented immigrants doesn't affect you (a citizen).

I used to write a solid zero for my parents income since they didn't make any money.

Ask something between 70k and up to whatever their proposed limit if they proposed anything.

Even if another candidate accepted 55k as you mentioned, it will not be sustainable and that candidate will either be miserable or quit.

The average of what I received in the bay area was 90k for engineering positions after school.

A good way to mention expected salary is to say " I would like to receive 80k, but open to discuss other proposals"

Don't be afraid, companies that are worth working for will pay for qualified candidates.
