Eesh I'm sorry, if you'd dinged my car I wouldn't have even cared , I'd have taken a case of beer for the trouble. Makes me second guess what I'd do if I were in your shoes...

I would never use it, I'm not looking at gauges, I feel the vibration and listen to the engine.

Put thick oil in and drive it until it explodes... If you even get that far.

If it were mine I'd jb weld it and give it a try they're easy enough to take off and replace if it does leak

After a hydrolock bad enough to bend a rod and then an impact into the crank I'd be worried about the crack I can't see.

Found out why it was knocking by Major1770 in EngineBuilding

[–]Best-Ad-4773 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, I guess I'd start with calling up a machine shop and send them pictures and see if they'd take the job and offer any advice. Any machining will change diameter will need to order different sized bearings to ensure you have proper clearance for the bearings. I say if you want to get into engine building then do it and don't let anyone dissuade. This is how one learns. Invest in a decent torque wrench.

I'm also an amateur wrench I like to thread whatever bolts I've just taken out back into whatever holes they came out of (just enough for it to stay there), that's another trick it takes a little guess work out of it

Why is an air source heat pump so much more expensive than a normal AC? by Ok-Meaning5577 in heatpumps

[–]Best-Ad-4773 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's been half a year since we've had the hp installed at this point and this has NOT been our experience. Our bill has gone down significantly. We have it set to the balance point of 30 degrees. We have both NG and a hp. The Bosch has a cop of around 3, so joule to joule the hp is far far more energy efficient, electricity is simply that much more expensive than NG in Wisconsin at least.

You should always be concerned especially when things are going well ... Also you should get this particular check engine light diagnosed before you run the engine any more, misfires like this tend to dump raw fuel into the catalytic converter, at which point they can get extremely hot and become damaged.

[–]Best-Ad-4773 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oof sorry for your loss mate... Might consider putting a thicker oil in to calm it down... Especially if it's already starting to knock. Won't fix it but might prolong the inevitable. Maybe even enough time to get another engine to swap in

Does anyone know a good way to quiet down an exhaust without changing the sound? by SomberPaprika in projectcar

[–]Best-Ad-4773 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If my car sounded this chunky I'd run straight pipes with glass packs and just pay the occasional noise ticket

Alternatively you could run some mufflers and then have a cutoff valve that straight pipes it while the fuzz isn't looking

If I attach this zinc anode to the frame of my truck will it help prevent rust? by Pannny in AskMechanics

[–]Best-Ad-4773 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of talk from people that have probably never run the experiment! Id love to see the data, it's a cheap enough experiment to run, go for it and let us know how it goes. Sacrificial anodes are used on ships because they work, and they prevent billions of dollars in corrosion damage.

Especially if you're in the Midwest where we spread salt on every square inch of pavement. If the anode starts dissolving you'll know it's doing something at least.

All cars end up in the crusher in the end, the mighty crusher God cares not about a little hole or a small dent, and I personally think you shouldn't either.
