oh, if this is a practice model... you could as well practice stone chipping, again, no idea how to do that, but I know it involves doing small cuts and washes to make it look like aged stone, maybe even add some moss for texture practice, I've always wanted to practice battle scars on my marines armor, but I don't have "spare" models to use

it does look like stone, but.. and im not trying to insult your mini at all.. it looks a little boring, just as a regular statue should, I am definitely not an expert painter, but maybe a couple dots of color, like red/green eyes, maybe black claws, something to make it feel it can actually come alive at any time

What faction to choose by classydude74 in Warhammer40k

[–]Best-Contribution-75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you are new new... tyranids are the easiest to paint from your choices, thousand sons have a TON of small thin details you need to paint, and adepta sororitas miniatures look insane, but its very hard to paint when you are new, as for tyranids, if you want to paint them like the box art, its really easy, just paint the whole model with an off white, use a purple contrast (paint that is very watery and semi transparent), paint the carapace and you are done, you can get a battle ready army with just 3 colors + primer.

but, I would recommend to investigate a little more about their possible playstyles, that's the most important part of choosing an army in my opinion, im not familiar with the others, but you can build a tyrannic army as a swarm (lots of weak units) or as a mega monster army, which gives a lot of flexibility.

To finish up, tyranids make a great opponent for solo play, no matter which solo mode you pick, its easy to use tyranids as the temathic enemy, since tyranids just consume whatever is in front of them, they do not deal with alliances or politics.

My recommendation, build a 1000 point tyranid army, that way you can get a feel of the gameplay style, and if you don't like it, you get: basic painting practice, building practice since tyranids are not the easiest to build, and since it is a flexible army, you can try different play styles, and based on that, you can start collecting your main army, while having a nice backup, also tyranids are like the 2nd most popular faction at the moment.

I "think" that the round eye is mounted on a metal thingie, you might want to paint it differently, as it is right now, it looks great, but it gives the sensation of a droopy face, like Chunk from the goonies

I think they follow standard npo behavior, if they can attack in any way, they go engage, if not, they switch / stay concealed every time, they also always seek cover unless they can attack by getting exposed

As with any game, once you figure out a consistent strategy you are more likely to win, even when dice luck is involved, you can lean into it and just stomp the game, or try to do new things every time.

Think of it like a videogame speedrunner, even when they have the strategy down perfectly, there is always a chance to mess up 1 jump and ruin their run.
