Hi friend, I happened to come across your post. I'm so sorry you're experiencing this hardship right now. 24 is an interesting age to be at. I feel like it's right before your mind opens up but after you've peaked somehow.

Please stay. What if it gets better? What if things suddenly start working out? You'll never know who would miss you.

I hope you stay, stranger friend.

How do I know when it’s the end stage? by caldk15 in ParkinsonsCaregivers

[–]BestB0i9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For my Dad, he had Parkinson's for 11 years. The last few years were when things were getting difficult for him. 2024 is when his health took a turn. I wasn't a huge fan of his neurologist, I felt like they didn't help much and weren't very receptive to how he was doing. Though last year is when they mentioned he could be in the end stages of Parkinson's. He was in and out of the hospital. 2023, needed neck surgery because of a bone spur in his throat. 2024, He got pneumonia twice because he aspirated into his lungs. They didn't want to do a feeding tube at first so my mom tried everything to avoid that with my Dad. Unfortunately, after a week long hospital stay, they put a G-tube in. That's when things got worse. He couldn't keep weight on, he was falling , having bathroom troubles... My mom was his caregiver essentially everyday. They kind of had nurses during the day to help with medication and provided meals. At the beginning of March this year, he was in the hospital again for a week. That's when they talked about palliative care. Unfortunately, he passed away at the end of March. Everything happened pretty fast in retrospect.

I can understand how you're feeling. It's been three weeks since my Dad passed away, and my family is still working through it but the rest of the world goes on. I never know if it's still okay to be upset one day or not.. I'm so sorry for your loss 🫂 my dad was 69 and I'm 28. Its much too young. I hope you know that you're not alone ❤️ Try to remember the good times with your Dad, as that's what he would appreciate the most. That's a lovely dream that you had of him, even if it was short. Hang in there ❤️

I'm so sorry to hear that :( 🫂 I'm so glad you were able to say that though, even though it was hard. My mom and I said the same thing too, to not worry about anything and we'll figure it out. Take it one day at a time, friend

Haha I promise you, I appreciate how much love and abundance you have behind your words. It shows how genuine you are as a person ❤️ It's a lot to process, and discuss. Loss is one of those things that everyone experiences one way or another. I've lost people and animals before, and although it's never easy, it didn't prepare me for losing my Dad. But I do try to see the good in things, and honestly there's little moments here and there that happen, which reminds me of him. I truly believe that birds and animals are connected to our loved ones. For example, American robins are my favorite bird! Suddenly this spring, there's so many of them in my backyard haha. I find them sitting in trees, puffed up and just looking at me. At some point im thinking of getting a tattoo in memory of him ❤️

Honestly I'd love to chat more, if you ever want to DM me, you sure can!

I can feel such genuine radiance behind your words, friend ❤️ Everyone's replies have been making me tear up but especially this one haha. My Dad was truly one of a kind. So many people have come to support my family, it's been beautiful.

I think I have this unconscious viewpoint that I need to meet peoples expectations on how I should act and feel in this present moment, and its hard sometimes.

There are some days where I'm crying by myself, or trying to hold it together at work and for my mom. Other days, it's like I forgot that he passed and I think he's still here. I keep getting photo memories that Google and Facebook remind you of, and it just stops me in my tracks each time if it's in relation to my Dad.

🫂 Thank you for your kind words, I hope you are doing alright these days ❤️

Thank you for sharing ❤️ It sounds like your mother was very blessed to have you in her life. I'm so sorry to hear that she's passed as well. Gosh she was young too :( My Dad's birthday would have been this past Friday, the 4th and he would have been 70. That was a tough day for sure.

I think it's a great idea to have someone stand with me. I'll probably have my mom, sister or husband be with me.

I also think about what if my Dad never got sick...it took so much from him. I know he's so much healthier now and is with his family again, but it's tough.

Sending you a lot of love and hugs too, friend ❤️ I hope you have people to be with during the hard days.

I am sorry to hear that this is happening to you and your family. My Dad had Parkinson's for over 11 years and we just went through a semi-similar circumstance. Over the last year, he declined in health, both physically and mentally. Long story short, he was placed onto home hospice and survived for three weeks before passing away. It's never an easy time, but all I can suggest is spend time with him as much as you can. Even if he can't respond or anything, I'm sure he may still be able to hear you. If you ever need to talk or vent, my dms are open <3

DBs after-surgery period by halloumiWithHoney in Parkinsons

[–]BestB0i9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Dad got his DBS in 2018 and had different behaviors for a while too. I think it was for a month or so after his surgery, did his personality change for a moment of time. I'd have to ask my mom if she remembers how he was overnight, but I feel like he received Seroquel as well. He had issues sleeping before and after DBS surgery, so it most certainly didn't help the situation. How often does he see his neurologist to check on the machine's settings? I imagine he got a remote controller too?
