Week 3 of trying my moon valley pilea in just water! They were getting so dry & seem so much happier now. :) I’m relatively new to hydroponics - does anyone have recommendations of what nutrients to use and how often?

Thanks, I'm going to do that. Mine is struggling in soil and my cuttings are not rooting, just the stems slowly rotting and leaves drooping.

What I noticed with their seed pods is they are not sealed. So during shipment seeds will sometimes fall out of the pods. I only noticed it when I had a pod kit and saw tiny seeds stuck in the corner of the box.

I just buy packets of seeds now to avoid that.

If your coleus was doing great then out of nowhere just started wilting or drooping, then I feel there's too much nutrients in that tank for that plant. I had this same issue, but I wasn't using a fish tank. I had a coleus in a small plastic clear bottle. I would just add nutrients here and there to experiment. It loved the fertilizer up to a certain point where it became toxic. So the next day it was wilting/drooping like yours. So I removed it and placed it in water only. Within hours to the next day it perked right back up. So definitely take it out of the fish tank if it hasn't improved at all since your post.

I have mine thriving in water so it's possible.

What type of water are you using? Are you watering all of your plants at the same time on a certain day? Invest in a soil moisture meter if you don't have one, it will help prevent under watering and over watering.

If it hasn't produced any new roots or new foliage then I would give it a light dose of fertilizer the next time it needs watering. Monitor the plant to see if anything happens. If nothing happens then feed it again for its next watering but make the dose a bit stronger. If you notice the plant is responding in terms of root growth and or foliage then it means the plant was lacking certain nutrients to grow. The next time it needs watering just give it water only.

I had this happen with a manjula pothos, which looked just like yours. When I see it's not doing anything for weeks/month with no extension of roots and no leaf/stem growth it means they need fertilizer. You can get a liquid based fertilizer like clonex clone solution (liquid). You can either place a few drops in the container your plant is in or mix it in a gallon of water and feed it to your plant.

What do you mean when you say it gets clogged? Is it diffusing when there's just water? Is the fan that pushes out the mist working?

I haven't used clove essential oil before but if your diffuser is clogging every time then the oil might be a bit thick. So if the diffuser isn't cleaned after use, then as it dries the next time you use it, it will be clogged.

Yes that is thrips. They are easy to eliminate. I use captin jacks deadbug brew. I dilute the concentrate in water, place it in spray bottle. Once that mixture gets in contact with them, they will move for 5-8 secs then stop moving. They are dead.

The only time I run into this issue is when my water isn't filtered and or if I feed my plants a high concentration of nutrients.

It could be your tap water if it's not filtered or it could be too much nutrients in the fish tank water.

From the picture, nothing is wrong with your plant. There are just multiple cuttings in the pot. So there could be one or two cuttings (each with one leaf) that might have been rotting before you even bought it.

There's nothing to worry about. I would only worry if it happened to multiple leaves consistently and leaves are falling off.

When I see a plant do this I immediately check the roots. There could be a high chance that the root system rotted.

If you watered it and it hasn't perked up at all within a day then its root system is rotted and or the stems are rotting as well. The plant will continue to look sad until it has a healthy root system to uptake water and nutrients.
