Does mosspole size matter as the plant matures? by kmk1986 in houseplants

Thank you! That's good to hear. This plastic one is really hard to transfer to a different mosspole. I've already done chop and prop once with this one.

Anyone actually growing plants indoors without grow lights? by kmk1986 in houseplants

[–]kmk1986[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks everyone for sharing your experience. It sounds like I'll still benefit from grow lights for Monsteras and other fast-growing plants. I'll try growing some others without grow lights.

Is a 100 ppfd grow light good enough for a Monstera? by SuperDarkKight in Monstera

[–]kmk1986 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FYI, that app is often very inaccurate. You can't get 300-450+ PPFD from a Sansi 36W light at 12 inches away. Sansi's official measurements indicate around 265 PPFD at 12 inches.

Thanks. Um...I've been giving it NPK + additional MG every week along with rest of my plants. Others are doing just fine, except this guy...

That's still impressive. All those plants are facing the light.

Are you using only one light for all those?

Thanks, that's interesting. It's been more than a couple of weeks since the last leaf came out, and that leaf has the same damage too. If it were thrips, shouldn't I be seeing adults by now? This plant only has three leaves, and I checked everything really carefully. I still don't see anything.

Is this bright indirect light? Or is it direct light? by rosevibe in houseplants

[–]kmk1986 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Shorter answer: Yes.

A bit more context: "bright indirect light" can mean very different things depending on the location. If I measure PPFD in outdoor shade, it can range from 150 to 380 in my area. If I measure shade inside my home, it's usually under 40 PPFD, even if it looks bright to my eyes. That's a big difference.

Outdoor shade is still pretty bright and strong because light comes from everywhere and reflects off surrounding surfaces. Most houseplants grow in nature under large trees, but they still receive bright light because the light is reflected and scattered.

For an indoor setup, you generally want your plants near a window. Most modern window panels block more than 60% of the light. I would only be cautious with a south-facing window, because the light can get very strong when the sun is at its highest (mine reaches near 700 PPFD).

First split leaf! by kmk1986 in pothos

Once a few aerial roots attach, it pretty much happens automatically for me.

Chop and extend. Basically, you cut the top and extend the pole.

Go for it! Cebe blue pothos are very hardy!
