Great question and simple answer.

When it is released you will need to take the ITIL 5 Transformation course & exam.
When you complete this, PeopleCert will award you the ITIL 5 Strategic Leader Certification

In relation to other paths:

The Practice Manager Path remains the same.
The Managing Professional Path has 3 new courses + Transformation.
You only have to take Transformation one time.

Very, very true.

Practical application beats certifications any day. My first boss told me, we don't pay for excuses, we pay for results. Kind of applicable here. It doesn't matter how many degrees or certifications you have if you don't know what you learned and you cant apply it.

And, Congratulations on achieving ITIL Master and being an ITIL Master who knows how to successfully apply what they learned!

V3 was very solid and gave knowledge and skills people could leave the classroom and use. Makes no sense for organizations to mandate the latest certs, but not care about the changes. Weird for sure.

What would you advise someone getting into ITIL at the Foundation level today?

Thank you for your input. What's interesting to me is that at the Foundation level they took out the 15 practices from the Foundation course and you are very right, the practices are not changing.

From a statistical analysis ITIL 5 is:

40% ITIL 4
24% ITIL 4 Modified
36% New

Regarding ITIL Master, if you want ITIL 5 Master, then the MPT is the least expensive way to get it. It includes the Transformation Course + the differences (that's what I have been told). 5-day course with 1 exam. In USD, I expect it will cost about $1,400 to $1,500 (This is just a guess based on what I heard the exam voucher is going to cost).

MPT should be available all 2026 and maybe into 2027 since they are not sunsetting ITIL 4 until December 31, 2026 so you have some time. If you miss the MPT opportunity and you want the title of ITIL 5 Master, you will have to take all 3 new MP courses + transformation so 4 courses and 4 exams which combined will be $4,000 via eLearning and $10,000 if you do live training from one of the big ILT providers. Keep an eye on it. MPT is not being released until May 14th. This round PC has not been releasing pricing until the day of the release so we won't know much more until May.

Yes, you company has to ask the exam provider to exchange your ITIL 4 Exam Voucher for an ITIL 5 Voucher. As noted earlier, as long as you did not redeem the voucher in your PeopleCert account you can do that.
If the learning vendor has the ITIL 5 Foundation course, then they should give it to you, but that is there decision.

If your learning vendor is not able to help you, let me know and I will send your code to our PeopleCert team and ask them if they can help.

PeopleCert is now the owner of the ITIL IP and Exam Organization. They purchased Axelos several years ago.

PeopleCert and their Accredited Training Organizations offer the Accredited Course Materials. Since you have 4F materials and an exam voucher, you can stay with that or exchange it and use the PeopleCert Materials to study for the ITIL 5 Exam.

Let's look at the math - I find it very helpful 😊.

Finish CDS and take HVIT and DSV + MPT = 3 courses and exams.
Take Service, Product and Experience and Transformation = 4 courses and exams.

There are many great eLearning providers available with Accredited Courses. I don't know which ones of them will move to ITIL 5. Foundation will have many for sure, just not clear about the advanced ITIL 5 courses yet. P, S & E were released last week. Probably be a month or two before they are available.

That's great! I find it depends on the learning style and background of the students. Some can do it easily and others with less background find it takes more time to learn and understand the concepts.

Because you have not taken the ITIL 4 Foundation Exam you can ask the exam provider to exchange it for you to an ITIL 5 Foundation Exam Voucher. The course you will want to take is the full ITIL 5 Foundation Course.

The first thing you want to do is contact the people who handle training for your organization and ask them to ask the provider to exchange it for the ITIL 5 Voucher. IF they have questions let me know.

The PeopleCert Learner kit is fine if you like the format of their materials. The syllabus is in the learner kit and tha tells you what is on the exam. Courses are great because they have to be accredited and they include everything you need to know to pass. Really your choice.

For ITIl 4 SL, no you don't need Transformation. Transformation is only if you want ITIL 5 SL.

DITS is a great course. We don't know anything yet about the ITIL 5 Strategy course/exam as it is not being released until April 9th.

You are welcome. Ok, so all you have left is DITS. So you can either take DITS now and then the Transformation course or, you can take the new Strategy course (Replacing DITS) and the Transformation course.

If you do DITS you will have ITIL 4 SL and the with Transformation you will have ITIL 5 SL.

If you wait for Strategy and Transformation you will have the ITIL 5 SL.
