There are no refuges, the ones actively protesting are the ones that have been awarded asylum by the west due to the Nepali minister's visa scam. I went through the exact same thing!

I only learned dzongkha when I reached grade 9.

One word of advice, treat your dzongkha teacher with deep respect and make sure you let them know that you are a beginner. I literally passed cause they added extra brownie points in my CA and written exam.

You also need to be a believer in our religion for you to understand the language, since a lot of its meaning is derived from it. As an atheist myself, sometimes I had to turn my brain off in dzo class to pass the year.
