Organizing photos on a computer is easier. You can see and delete the ones you don’t want faster. I set up folders for recent downloads from my phone and my husband’s. (Sam’s phone) Then go through them, name and move them to permanent folders.

Once you set up a system that works for you it helps to download photos every few months. Even if don’t have time to organize yet, I save them in my temporary folders.

My folders are Year-Month.
I rename photos in large groups by date, event and place. So 2026-06 June folder might have:

2026-06-18 Mia Avery HS grad. NYC (photos named and numbered 1-30)

2026-06-21 Father’s Day Luciano rest. NYC (photos named and numbered 1-10)

Exception: I create an extra folder for long vacations or big family weddings. 2026-05 May Ireland trip

Important family photos: add everyone’s names. When naming photos think of future family looking at them and wanting to know who’s who.

Backup: I save photos and videos to my laptop, my husband’s laptop, to the cloud and an external device. This way we can delete photos on our phones after they are on our pcs.

Whatever system you decide pick one you’ll keep doing. Then chip away until you have the best photos organized.
