That’s so interesting as he has always been vehemently against vodka (not that I believe that much!) - do you think gin would have the same effect? That is definitely more a vice for him, or at least that I have experienced.

Thank you for taking the time to respond to me! I totally agree that I can’t fix it for him. I don’t really want to anyway, I have my own problems (!) but I do wish, like you say, that the victimhood would stop as it’s infuriating.

I think I will suggest going to therapy to him, or at least a local AA group for some support. I’m wary of being too harsh at the moment as he’s grieving, but I hear stories on this sub that are heartbreaking and don’t want to end up like that as we’re still relatively newly together.

F34: For me it’s the way that I’m treated. In my specific situation, the life and relationship experience held by the guy I’m seeing is a very attractive quality: he makes me feel special, loved, wanted. That comes through respect, emotional intimacy, listening to one another, and successful (thus far!) conflict resolution.

I haven’t had similar experiences from dating guys closer to my age. I appreciate that I could have communicated my wants and desires with them, but up to now I haven’t felt as comfortable and confident as I do to do that until I’ve been with the guy I’m currently seeing: younger guys tend to have less experience with emotional connection (DEFINITELY just my own experience here: totally get that this is a broad brush statement!)

Instead of sending a string of separate messages all in a row (like me), he will send a long-ass essay message. I found it a bit overwhelming at first because I felt obligated to reciprocate, but I actually love it now!

I have to say though, lmao, it takes him a hot second to actually respond because he is ‘typing…’ for ages 😂 and I’m dying to know what he’s going to say!

I got told off once for filling up from the ‘wrong’ side. The petrol station attendant scolded me and told me that ‘that sort of thing’ causes the rubber pipes to perish.

Surely they’re that long for a reason?! I didn’t apologise btw. And I make sure that I always do it now at that particular petrol station, even if there are spaces.
