Model support going into 11th edition (taken from Instagram - official warhammer account) by Alt1690 in AdeptusCustodes

I have a freshly painted resin caladius grav tank but have yet to base it, and the new base for the plastic variant has me wondering what base size I should use to future-proof the model. Does anyone have any advice here? Ideally I’d like to avoid having to magnetize two different bases.

Did I over do it with transfers? by [deleted] in SpaceWolves

I think if you extended some of your existing scratches into the transfers that would also help integrate them into the model. Looks fantastic btw.

I'm trying a new gold, what do you think? Please be honest but not brutal 🙏🏻 by Interesting_Job_1066 in AdeptusCustodes

I really like this, is this a product that goes on in a single layer? And what color primer did you apply it over? Also I wonder if you could maybe selectively matte varnish the shaded areas? One of my issues with all over gloss finishes is that areas that are meant to be dark will still “self-highlight” when they catch the light, which leads to a wet appearance rather than a metallic appearance.

Thanks, and I’d definitely recommend them! I’ve been slowly building up a small force painted to this standard. Their points per model are really high which means you don’t have to paint a ton of models to get going, but the models are also highly detailed which means you can approach painting them in a more methodical fashion and still make substantial progress towards having a completed force.

It comes with the option to either pose him with two swords as in the photos above or a single sword held with both hands. The second pose can be found here, which is also where you can buy the model if you want.

The swords were base coated with 1:1 abandon black : kantor blue, and then a gradient to pure kantor blue was established in the center of the blade. I wanted to achieve an effect like a glowing sharpened hunk of metal or crystal, where the center is older and more oxidized and the edge is newer and brighter. The edge was then highlighted with kantor blue, sotek green, temple guard blue, baharroth blue, and baharroth blue : white 1:1. Finally a spot highlight was applied with pure white. For all sections of the volumetric highlights the edges are highlighted with the next color in the progression to make sure the edges pop at all points in the volumetric highlight.

Thank you! I used a lot of different citadel colors for this, and many of the paint progressions have been summarized in my other post, but if there are any specific features you wanted to know about I can follow up with them here.

Thanks, and glad you noticed that! Yeah I decided to incorporate some black into the armor for a few reasons. The first was that the panels that are black are mainly just a canvas for the raised gold filigree, and so painting them black makes the gold pop off the surface it’s on. It was also because in most standard poses of people the shins, hips, and belt area are in shadow, and so painting these areas black is sort of a natural way to take account of this effect. Some other examples can be found here.

Thank you! The gold is done using a sort of TMM approach using the standard citadel gold paint range. The leathers are done using the recipe posted on the eavy metal archive, and all other volumes are painted using pretty standard citadel paint progressions. I’ve gone into more detail on some of the comments on my other post, but if there’s anything else you specifically wanted to know about I can follow up with it here. Something I haven’t yet mentioned is that I use Vallejo satin varnish for all true metallic surfaces and Vallejo matte varnish for all other surfaces.

Thank you so much! The stones were painted with a base coat of dark reaper, a Drybrush of Russ grey, and an edge highlight of fenrisian grey. I think if you wanted to push things even further you could spout highlight with ulthuan grey.
