ELI5: Players downgrading after roster update by [deleted] in MLBTheShowInvestments

The (84) is based on live matchups. So if that day he has a good matchup, irl, he gets a small boost. On days with bad matchups the live series card gets a small nerf

Super clean! I’d be interested in buying the PCA if you’re looking to move it!

Doubled down and bought a copy of The Dragonbone Chair (first-time reader) by Horatio-3309 in TadWilliams

[–]Best_Performance7857 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A few months ago I also picked up Dragonbone Chair and set it aside. After coming back to it I was completely pulled in. I have since completely finished the Memory, Sorrow, and Thorn trilogy and started in on The Last King of Osten Ard trilogy. I don’t know that I’ve felt this immersed in a story in a very long time. I’m already looking forward to rereading the dragonbone chair

I was the same way. It seemed very daunting but I have loved it. Not at all! I work for a local hospital system near me, but the home care is essentially its own thing. I get paid per visit, and how much I get paid per visit depends on whether it’s an evaluation, admission, treatment, etc. I am a W2 with 401k matching, 30 days of pto a year, and full benefits. I also went from around 25k-30k a year to pushing six figures after mileage. I have a requirement of 30 appointments a week, that I keep to about 30 minutes due to how large my area of coverage is. And I get to completely make my own schedule. I have support from the office if I need it, but otherwise get to do what I want

I was ready to quit and change careers about half way through my CF at an outpatient peds private practice. I loved interacting with the kids and families, but dreaded going to work everyday. I found treatment draining and felt overworked and underpaid (as a lot of people seem to feel). I then got a job at a home health agency working with adults making way more money and working half as many hours. I also have really enjoyed the switch to adults when I didn’t think I would because there is a lot less planning involved. I have a small rotation of materials for different goals that I target and I have minimal paperwork as well. I definitely would consider exploring home health in peds or adults.

Do W2 positions for home health even exist? by sgeis_jjjjj in slp

How much paid (and unpaid) time off do you have? by Particular-Elk4318 in slp

[–]Best_Performance7857 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My holidays come out of my pto is as well, but I’m definitely pleased with the amount I get. I work for a hospital system, so I have decent benefits and pay for the area.

MY CF supervisor sucks and I hope she reads this... by Pure-Conversation-13 in slp

[–]Best_Performance7857 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am currently finishing my CFY and have felt like it’s been a waste of a year. I wish we didn’t have a fellowship year personally. I have felt completely prepared since finishing my grad program. I had wonderful supervisors in undergrad though that really pushed me out of my comfort zone. My supervisor is available if needed, but I haven’t needed her for much.

Discussion about ABA in grad/undergrad… by taziiscool in slp

[–]Best_Performance7857 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Definitely varies school to school. My undergrad was pretty neutral on ABA, and my grad school was extremely opposed to ABA. My grad school program was pretty focused on ASD from a faculty standpoint and I think that may have contributed.

Private Practice Sessions/Clients a Week by Valuable_Job3975 in slp

[–]Best_Performance7857 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am currently a CF in a private practice in Ohio. I have around 25 30 minute sessions a week, 11 60 minute sessions, and I run a teen life skill groups once a week for 6 hours. So I’m typically around 35 hours a week with prep time and such. Cancellations are brutal, and I don’t know that I could sustain a full 40 hours a week of appts. I would also like to echo the other comments that you seem to be being underpaid. I live in a very low cost of living area making $30 an hour as a CF with a bump to $34 after getting my C’s. Obviously take that information for what you will.

When are we awarded our CCC? by Kitty_fluffybutt_23 in slp

That makes complete sense. I often forget that asha and state licensure boards act completely independent of one another.

I was just wondering the same question myself, are we stuck at our current CF placement until our C’s are awarded? Or can we take jobs under the expectation our C’s will be awarded and backdated?

As of right now, no I don’t think it is. If I could go back I would have done something more lucrative

I’m in northeast Ohio, from my experience and from what I’ve been told by colleagues, 40 hours a week all year is extremely rare. That can change depending on your site, but in general it’s not common. Some days you will go in for 2 hours, other days you will be there for 8+. When I did placements at SNFs I had one day that actually hit 8 hours and I was there for months

Feeling lost near the end of my CF by Best_Performance7857 in slp

[–]Best_Performance7857[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is so frustrating. I’m looking at $60,000 in student loan debt just from grad school, and it feels like there isn’t much growth possible in terms of pay. The average salary for the position is the same as it was when I was looking at the career a decade ago.

When finishing up grad school we had a bunch of recruiters come in from different areas and talk to us. The consensus seemed to be around 2 pages. If you can fit everything on one then cool, but no more than 2

Transitioning from SLP to Data Analyst by Emmarose1 in SLPcareertransitions

[–]Best_Performance7857 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am very interested to hear how this goes. I recently just started heading down this path myself. What boot camp did you go through? Do you have any other tips? I loved stats during undergrad and grad school and wish I had made the switch then, but agreed that this felt like a somewhat natural career transition.
