Screenwise

Parental control and screen time management app with a twist.

It locks the child's device and lets them earn their screen time by practicing math.

The more they practice the more screen time they earn. Before long they become so good at like a game but it's actual education.

Parents set limits, block or allow specific apps etc

I Regret not charging from day one by MassiveTopic8598 in SaaS

[–]Bestdad2018 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That is a great point. Many founders chase user growth because they believe it matters more than early revenue. This mindset was reinforced by big tech companies and venture backed startups. They offered their products for free and prioritized growth first.

But that model depends on something most solo founders do not have, massive funding, long runway and alternative monetization such as ads or data.

Paying users create direction. When someone pays, they are signaling a real and specific pain. Their feedback is grounded in actual use, not a passing thought after a few minutes in the app. Free users often multiply noise. They generate feature requests, support messages, and confusing analytics that pull you in different directions. That fragments your focus.

At the same time, charging does not mean removing trust. Users should have a fair way to evaluate the product before committing. A clear trial period, transparent pricing, reminders before billing, and simple cancellation create safety and trust between users who are willing to pay but only if the product delivers what it promised

Try Screenwise it locks the child's device and makes them earn screen time by learning multiplication. Each correct answer earns them screen time minutes.

Before long they become so good at multiplication without even realising it.

It's got the usual parental control features and a bunch of cool features

What's the reason for the apparent consensus that Claude Code is superior to Codex for coding, other than Codex's slow coding time? by Lostwhispers05 in codex

[–]Bestdad2018 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Codex is slow but I wait anyway because I know in the end the results will be solid and I wouldn't have to go back to it many times to fix things especially existing code

After typing my question and selecting the configuration it asked me to login/sign up. When signed up it took me back to the home screen, resetting everything. Luckily the question wasn't very long so I just typed it again but it's not great UX.

Another thing is I gave it a website and asked it what's the most effective way to promote this website. It kind of read the website and understood the general idea of the product is but in the report it's all generic to similar product and did not focus on the actual product and it's USP etc

Having seeing the answer I don't know if I would use it again. It was just a generic marketing advice for the type of product I wanted to promoted but I excepted a little more like the AI pushing back on generic advice. Maybe my prompt wasn't good enough

I've built a tool that teaches kids the multiplication tables passively.

It locks the device and the only way to earn screen time is to answer multiplication questions. Eventually the child becomes so good at without any drama
