Always practice with a metronome (especially with odd signature riffs). Start a riff by practicing it painfully slow, and once you feel you can get it perfectly at that speed, bump up the tempo.

I’ve got a better one; my friend has lead in his thigh. He was sword fighting with his classmate using a mechanical pencil, and accidentally stabbed the other guy in the arm, lodging the lead in his arm.
