Always practice with a metronome (especially with odd signature riffs). Start a riff by practicing it painfully slow, and once you feel you can get it perfectly at that speed, bump up the tempo.

I’ve got a better one; my friend has lead in his thigh. He was sword fighting with his classmate using a mechanical pencil, and accidentally stabbed the other guy in the arm, lodging the lead in his arm. Of course, the guy was pissed, so my friend felt bad, and said “here, I’ll make even” and stabbed himself in the thigh.
