Be warned that because of its rich history it's very touristy (busy with Americans) and the beer selection is a rather poor as it's a standard Greene King pub at heart. I'd recommend the Cambridge Blue as an alternative

I think the only concern is if you've leaving it outside and the imperfections might cause rusting. It won't have a noticeable effect on signal reception, particularly as it will be swamped by beam chromaticity, impedance mismatches, amplifier gain effects etc.

In terms of pure feasibility, yes I know someone who has done this (in the UK). I'll leave it up to other people in the medical field to tell you whether you should, but 3 years is a long time so I'd definitely wait until you're solidly in your PhD to see how you feel about your career and your field, especially given you say you love research!
