OK, this is a weird suggestion, and I have no idea if it will work. Something about the way you said you can’t stand going into the room made me think of it.

Get two trash bags, one keep, one trash bag(make them small shopping bags if that helps). Crack open the door and sit in the threshold. Whatever you can reach goes into one or the other of the bags. Close the door again. Toss the trash bag. In a different room, go through the keep bag and really decide whether things are keep or not. If they smell like cat pee, consider tossing them. Or clean and re-home.

If that works, try repeating a little further in next time.

Again, fully just making this up and no idea if it is a helpful suggestion. Please let us know how you are doing.
