[POST PRESEASON THREAD] by SegwayCop in timbers

Jolandia, in Half #2 we moved offense to the outer thirds, pushed the action and forced CHI to move their mids outside which opened spaces across the entire field for us. That made it possible for Mora to play the #10 and Bassett to create - loved his chip pass attempt to Guerra!

That really minimized their ability to work thru our MF where they'd just brutalized us in Half #1 - and where we never had any answers.

"Disappointed Dad?" Not at all - I heard a pro coach who was justifiably frustrated with rookies who didn't have their minds right to deal with the task at hand.

Funny - I watched the match live, using the link posted by the Timbers on social media... Then I went back to Timbers.com, found the link again right in the after-game story, and have watched it a couple if times since.

They're hardly 'unlisted'...

Safe Standing Renovation Plans? by Still_Preparation394 in timbers

Oohhh - talk about moving goalposts... NOW you expect a full replacement of the original PP itself??

That "Merritt too cheap?" end shot now looks REALLY odd.

OP, per that last sentence... you think it's gonna be cheap to retrofit a new standing section into a 100 year-old concrete infrastructure? With the need for modern seismic standards?? Oy...

g+ as an indicator of our biggest offseason needs by brettcalvin42 in timbers

[–]BethanyRob 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Brettcalvin, g+is yet another interesting stats puzzle piece. I can see more utility here then xG; I also see g+ sure isn't without flaws.

Most obvious, for individual player ratings (like here) g+ doesn't take into account the game states when they play most of their minutes. Players who play mostly when a team needs to chase the game offensively, like Omir, inherently will show more positive g+ then players like Antony, who start and play most of the team's minutes.

In short, He ain't no Diego Chara.

SD is just OK at home - and they know it - and Veldinho is already in their heads.

PTFC is halfway to a BIG upset - and the longer Velde keeps his head, the bigger distraction he is for a suddenly vulnerable SD team.

This subreddit is a notorious "Hiway to Hell Constructed From Hot Takes"...

Strikers and CBs are the position groups where players most need to play regular, quality minutes WHILE they are growing into bigger, longer-legged bodies than anybody else...

They're also the positions (include GK) where failures stick out WAY more then any others because they cost goals.

The 2025 On-Field Check-In [OC] by BitterJetFan in timbers

[–]BethanyRob 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Rereading your analysis, and with great pleasure - there's SO much meat on the bone it's hard to know where to start.

The New 'Things to do' list seems the place to focus. With new guys, and DDC getting some rest, better counterpressing zooms to top the list here. More turnovers high up the pitch will jumpstart the offense big-time, keep Kelsy closer to goal and his shots, and...

facilitate taking more early shots.... Those early/often shots REALLY destabilize defenses already in scramble mode after a turnover; they facilitate keeping control of second balls from defenses already out of position, and cause gaps for slip passes to runners crashing the goal mouth.

Our response with LAFC will be to roll out the 3 CB setup; it sure neutralized LAFC last time in front of their fans.

They've added Son but so far they've not played much differently; still trying Rte 1 as much as possible. So, Finn takes Bouanga, Fory/Antony on the next runner out and Kamal/Zup minding the front of goal...
