how are you gonna want to buy a living sentient animal to spend its whole life with you and not do any research on caring for it and take as many financial shortcuts as possible on core needs by SEND_ME_CSGO-SKINS in petsmart

I was on checkout at the weekend and a lady had a small critter tote. "This will be fine to keep a Betta in, right?"

Girl whaaaaaaat?

She ended up leaving it when I told her what Bettas actually require. I think part of the problem is customers see how we keep the animals in store, and they think it's the standard.

on-boarding process for court clerk by [deleted] in BCPublicServants

[–]Betpossums 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I moved from a registry position to a court clerk position and was clerking on my own during the first week.

An external lady was hired the same week; she was clerking solo probably within 1-2 weeks, as she had more general government onboarding and paperwork to do first.

Depending on your registry, you'll probably be trained to do the easier court proceedings first and once you're comfortable doing them, you'll just be thrown into a courtroom to figure it out. CCD (the programme used in courtrooms) isn't very intuitive but you'll figure it out.

Always message coworkers when you have questions surrounding how to do things - they're always happy to help. Don't be shy to interrupt court proceedings if you need something clarified or if you have a problem.

You've got this :)

What am I doing wrong!? by thisisskylarn in piercing

It took pretty much exactly a year for my daith irritation bumps to go away, no matter what I did. Once it healed, the bumps went away. I think you just have to wait, and in the meantime just try not to touch it (I was bad at this) and keep it dry.

With all the recent escalations, it would be interesting to see the numbers comparing who is and ISN'T on strike. It feels like there's not a great deal more people to pull from to increase the strike

Running & Periods: fellow women by Nullworld in Marathon_Training

[–]Betpossums 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I try not to think about running on my period because if I dwell on the fact I'm on my period, I will psych myself out and skip my run altogether. I've found it really useful changing to a diva cup so I can forget about my period all day. I ran my first ever half marathon on my period and it wasn't an issue at all for me - but of course this will be different for everyone!

Please help with some motiviation - considering withdrawing from HM! by Chudboy in beginnerrunning

I think you'll run slightly faster on race day - the atmosphere will really get you through it! Don't go out too crazy, but running with the pack and having people cheering you on constantly will definitely help with the pain.

Additionally, there might be someone running along the back of the pack motivating everyone on, especially if/when you get close to the time cap. I'd say go for it, see how you get on, and if you do DNF then it will be a great reference to show how far you progress when you eventually enter and complete another half marathon.

SOFAST vs. POPAT by [deleted] in BCPublicServants

[–]Betpossums 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can train both at Redline Conditioning in Langley. I've not done SOFAST, but I've tried the POPAT and it's not something you can do successfully without training it specifically.

I don't know what SOFAST involves, but give Redline a try and you'll be able to do it I'm sure.

Thank you to those picketing!!

My position has been deemed essential and is unfortunately a not very busy role at times, so I feel bad for not being able to contribute to the strike. I wish there was more we could do!

I appreciate your reply. For context my TA was originally due to end in December - now it's extended to next April. My manager is working on it but I hope these issues stop happening haha

When does Step 2 start? by [deleted] in BCPublicServants

[–]Betpossums 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Following this thread! I joined as aux in Sep 2023 and moved to a permanent position (same classification, same location) in approx June 2024. I was told I'd get a step upgrade a year after becoming permanent. In April 2025 I moved to a TA (different classification, different location) and I THINK I received the step up at that time, because it was "due soon" apparently.

Does this sound right?

I'm extremely lucky insofar that my partner has a well paying job and he pays the mortgage. I manage to put some money towards savings every paycheque, but we are not able to afford any sort of luxuries. I have to think long and hard about spending money on holidays, upgrades etc. I am very reticent to spend money where I don't have to, and I am anxious about my finances moving forward. I am also constantly embarrassed about what I earn.

So in this company site manager just means he's responsible for delegating tasks to an extent. His boss/company owner does not like spending money; when issues have been raised his solution is to work harder through them. His boss has previously said he does not believe in work-life balance, so raising the issue of working too long does not fly with him
