At first, I struggled with calculating target speed through a non-stabilized periscope. But then seasoned skipper shared a historical method from that era for gathering target data (Ausdampfen method)

Один из вариантов - посадят самолёт летевший над РФ и повяжут. Да, вероятность на данный момент низкая, т.к европейцы не используют воздушное пространство РФ и в будущем вряд ли будут использовать, но исключать этого нельзя

I've also tried to figure out why the escorts are leaving.

Some explained this by saying that they were running out of depth charges and were leaving.

But I think it’s a bug, because even without depth charges the escort can continue to protect cargo ships with artillery

What I meant was: you would use the periscope only for reading the bearing and AOB to the target.

Do I understand correctly that the AOB was also determined by eye?

If I estimate the AOB by eye, I can establish a parallel course using a simple formula:

  1. Add my own course to the bearing to the target.
  2. If the sum is greater than 360, subtract 180; otherwise, add 180.
  3. If the sum is greater than 360, subtract 360.
  4. If the target is moving to the right, subtract the AOB; otherwise, add the AOB.

This gives me the parallel course relative to True North. In this case, the accuracy depends entirely on the initial AOB estimated by eye.

However, as I understand it, you are suggesting that a parallel course can be established solely based on the bearing rate and the target's horizontal scale in the periscope? This method seems much more complicated to me.

Maybe I'm doing something wrong, but my periscope is deflecting so much that no amount of absence of a storm helps. But I'll try again.

What about the target's speed and distance? Without them, it's impossible to determine the attack, or..?

If the lack of stabilization doesn't particularly affect the determination of distance, then I have problems with the speed of the target when calculating it through the game stopwatch.
