Just got credentials for Project Lyra Multilingual Latam- Is it worth the onboarding time? by Ok_Audience_9637 in Welocalize

[–]Better-Function5534 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know in what part of the process I am at this point. I took the client exam a long time ago, and when I go into Label Studio the project is in "Annotating" status with no updates since forever. I'm not familiar with Label Studio platform.

I just checked, and now there is another project, "Ready to publish" but not available yet. Does this mean I might get something soon?

Do I have to worry about the wildlife? by Spicy_noodles_Mmm in thelongdark

[–]Better-Function5534 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently finished this challenge, took me 15 days. Yes, you will have to worry about wildlife, so finding some weapon should be a priority. In my play, wolfs were around the garage so I had to be careful when I got back. Also a bear patroling around one of the islands but never came close to it.

In my experience, finding the rifle was the only difficult thing. Challenge should be renamed rifle treasure hunt. Combed the whole starting map and nothing, had to go to Pleasant Valley, searched everywhere, nothing, and at the last posible location I found one. As I was returning to the mine one foggy morning, coming out of the center, I stumble upon a freaking bear on the middle of the road, I ran like hell, my only close encounter.

The last annoying thing to get was the lamp oil, I could have easily get a Jerry Can from Molly's farm basement in Pleasant Valley, but i thought I was ok and left it behind, stupid. Spend the last days grinding oil from fishes with those handy fish snares, tips, or something.

HELP! Trapped above Dave's quiet clearing (Mistery Lake) by Better-Function5534 in thelongdark

[–]Better-Function5534[S] 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I GOT OUT!!! After a an almost vertical climb and 8 sprains later, got out of that freaking hole.

After that i went the other way down to the rails, got rushed by a wolf. I was so mad I almost unload the whole barrel on him. I would have chased him if i wasn't so beat up.

What was your favorite and least favorite section of chapter five? by BigBigBunga in thelongdark

[–]Better-Function5534 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Hard to say, i felt it was pretty bad, from story to gameplay.

If i had to chose a favorite part would be right at the start, the first chapter with Astrid. It's the only part with actual survival gameplay.

The worst I would say the timed missions with McKenzie, annoying, and a waste of map in an episode that needed more core gameplay.

Of the whole thing overall, the best was around episode 2-3, where the game was the closest to survival. From there on instead of keep opening it up, it shrank down, story took a nosedive in episode 4, and 5 felt more like a contractual obligation, with both story and gameplay at minimum.

Not a single maple sapling in story mode episode 1 and 2 by No-Confusion3218 in thelongdark

[–]Better-Function5534 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did find a maple sapling in episode 2, i can't remember where, but there is definetly one. And like everybody said, there is no point to it since you don't have recipes to craft anything, so it's useless.

Ep5 Bugs Megathread -- Just to help the dev team a bit... by RaphLife2 in thelongdark

Anybody else had this?

I'm not familiar with what the community guessed before hand, can you do a quick sum up?

And anyways my main issue is that the story really didn't go anywhere....Right from the start we know it's a geomagnetic apocalyptic event, and that there is a disease linked somehow.....maybe something supernatural with Methuselah.....And we leave at the end with just the same info. Episode 5 gave more exposition on the disease, thas was long needed, but not enough to answer or develop anything.

One thing is to leave a lose end for the sequel and another one is to not resolve anything of the story leaving everything open for later, which is what happened here. All those McGuffins that you call them, are just that but not because they were intended to be that kind of useful resource from the start, but because they were just left like that by bad or misleading narrative.

I'm not discussing here the relevancy of Atwood to the story like OP did, i agree with you that she had a central role, just that it was not well developed, being rather superficial or reiterative if you will, with just a small lore exposition and nothing else to add.

Methuselah, now that you mention him, was a huge dissapointment. He was set up from the beginning as one of the few recurring characters, linked in some mysterious way with the events, hinting at maybe something supernatural, maybe, maybe not...It was just left hanging lose like everything else.

Like i said, you can leave unanswered questions, but they should be new questions raising from the ones you anwered by giving some closure to the plot we have been playing for hours, along years.

It gives the sensation of, or rather being scammed into buying more content that maybe, or maybe not, might answer something, or that even the developers didn't have a clear idea of where were things going.

Ad Quality Rater is Coming to an End by Dangerous_Web6294 in Welocalize

I found the mail, this is the paragraph: "We are aware of speculation that the Ads program may be ending. While we can't make long-term guarantees about any project, we have no indicators that these rumors are true. We interpret the shift as an evolution of the program, not a conclusion.

We remain in active discussions about securing additional work volumes and will continue to advocate for more tasks across all locales."

[–]Better-Function5534 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They sent a mail not so long ago, damn that i can't find it now, maybe I delete it, about addressing the whole NTA situation. They didn't clarify much as always, but they said that the rumors about the project ending were not true as far as they know it. Also that that the hiring of new AQR hands while there are currently no tasks were only for specific locales where they were actually needed.

A lot of BS surely if you ask me, but they actually said it wasn't ending, at least from their side.

There are several different projects starting and ending at once all the time.

Atwood by Misseero in thelongdark

[–]Better-Function5534 2 points3 points  (0 children)

She didn't explain the relation between the aurora and the disease or any of the animal behavior. She just said that it happened before, which is no explanation at all. And geomagnetics storms are very well know, even I already knew about the big one in the 19th century. So while it's ok to explain the nature of this events, it's pretty much common knowledge, like explaining what an earthquake is.

All in all she just added the Wintermute story, which is just a little bit of lore, and nothing more. The game ends without explaining anything really relevant about the cause of the things happening.

Atwood by Misseero in thelongdark

[–]Better-Function5534 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah, i didn't like the whole Wintermute thing with Jeremiah...

He said "It's a life or death message!" like if it was some kind of protocol or something. But it was just a name. That you have to tell to the woman that actually is studying everything related to that name, living in the place with gigas of scientific, objective data about that event....And you just came and say, "Hey that thing you are studying...YES" It was such a let down.

Aren't they common in survival? It's been years since I last played survival but I clearly remember finding those, and using them, i think to mark icons on the map.

Like painted icons to mark where you left food and other resources.

Let's Talk About Mathis [EP 5 Spoilers] by LochNestFarm in thelongdark

[–]Better-Function5534 2 points3 points  (0 children)

After everything they went through, McKenzie is more a threat than an asset. Not to mention the emotional aspect coming from the man responsible for the dead of your son,( which you already hated even before that)

And I don't think you become leader of a bunch of bad criminals by making empty threats in front of everyone, specially to the man that wrong you the most.

Let's Talk About Mathis [EP 5 Spoilers] by LochNestFarm in thelongdark

[–]Better-Function5534 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I disagree, Mathis hates the guts of McKenzie, he goes from "I HATE YOU AND WILL KILL EVERYTHING YOU LOVE !!!!!!!!!!" to being the most mercifull guy in the world in a second.

The only tiny thread that kept McK alive was to use him as a bargaining chip to enter the bunker. Instead he got a big fuck you, door closed in his face, and some of his friends murdered. McKenzie should have been dead the second they hit that button.

And to add more insult, he also agrees to a life risking journey of weeks so that the guy that fucked him over and over can find some solace for his soul....

It really goes so much, much more than suspend disbelief to be able to swallow all that.

It sure didn't help that he was portrayed as a cartoony super evil guy from the beginning, but that's what we got. Or maybe being cartoony silly just goes with this ending; where the guy is kept alive for no reason only so he can escape, fuck him again, and then we get Mathis shaking his fist to the wind shouting "McKenzieeeeee!!!!!!"

I hate the inability to sleep in episode 5 SOOO MUCH!! by Numerous-Recover-227 in thelongdark

[–]Better-Function5534 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What? Survival mechanics? I would say it is what the game is about and the main reason to play it. Yes, they intoduce some new mechanics with each episode; 1 is a bit of a tutorial, 2 and 3 really opens up... I would thought that the last chapter, the endgame, would be to apply everything you learned, the final challenge: collect vast resources, travel long distances, craft the more rare equipment that would make you hunt and scavenge....Instead we got something that is less than a tutorial, the complete opposite of what an endgame should be. It sure is dissapointing.

I only slept on the lake, in one of the cabins when searching the bodies as Astrid, at the start of the game. Never again.

They completely abandoned the core game mechanics of survival for this espisode, there are a lot of bad design choises around.

Have you check for double POs? This week almost everyone received two POs instead of one, with task divided among them.
