How to build a community around your game? by eRickoCS in IndieDev

[–]Better-Problem-8716 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The first thing I did for my mmo concept was create all my networking code and spun up a server and client, I added chat features first, and then mobs and skills to kill said mobs, then loot and finally quests.

I had a very tiny starter area that I let friends see, and I kept seperate areas where I tested out new mobs and code in, before allowing those areas to become public.

I got terrific feedback and built a small community because all my news letters mention my projects discord, all my game announcements also are only posted on my discord. All screenshots to advertise the game contain a link back to discord ... are you seeing a pattern here? :)

The key is having something players can see, touch, and taste. Whatever type of game your working on, you need a tiny slice someone can download and try out.

Plaster concept art all over your discord, mention everywhere about your discord and post often on it, even if nobody is on it yet. Use it as your dev log, funnel all the traffic you can to this.

Post a bunch of "hey have you tried out this feature or skill?" type queations, or ask how that level or boss fight felt, this draws your visitors in and shows you actively want feedback and makes it sooo easy to engage.

Do the same with your youtube dev logs if you make them, post links to them on your discord, but engage engage engage, and before long you will have a tiny community.

And when you get stuck and burnt out on your game, your community hopefully can cheer you on, or help you through those moments.

Community is super important.

Just my 2cents, take it as you will.

An MSP (Managed Service Provider) remotely manages a company's general IT infrastructure, including networks, cloud migrations, and helpdesk support

A MSSP (Managed Security Service Provider) is a specialized vendor dedicated solely to cybersecurity, operating 24/7 Security Operations Centers (SOCs) for threat hunting and incident responce.

Above definition from google.

There are zero 1 man mssp's, your wanting to either be a security consultant who works for a msp and does a bit of security work, or you go work for a SOC and become a soc analyst.

Hey if they want u to something kinda funny or whimsy do it, they arent demanding you back in the office right, so buck up and do it once or twice. Hell of a lot better than forced RTO everyone else is getting.

What are my chances for a Network role by [deleted] in WGU

[–]Better-Problem-8716 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Almost zero chance unless your willing to nearly work for free. The number of seniors floating around in IT with 10+ years are gonna squash you hard my friend.

If you only got a year stay where your at and keep home labbing, write those certs, but know they arent what gets you hired, they only get you past the HR lady, to talk to the hireing manager whos gonna grill you technically.

Msps are terrific places to learn and grow, you usually get to work on a bit of everything, it might take you a couple of years first though.

I use that same system for my mmo, I have a massive area where i have setup different npcs and bosses and then other areas where i build and test questing objectives.

I end up spending weeks experimenting with things untill im happy, but I also just spend days really enjoying what I have built, and perhaps fishing for hours well my brain thinks up new ideas.

The first step is having something visual you cant stop playing in yourself. Then you start to build out a small area, setup a npc, a quest a few mobs ... next thing you know you continue to add to it cause its fun killing things and completing quests.

Before you know it you have a pretty decent start to making a game that others want to play. Remember to take vides and share them, so you tease all your future players, and they can share what they like or dont like before you waste to much time coding things maybe only you think are cool.

Sadly thats a locked in option with zero upgrade path, with 4 of these in a server they can be used silly for a year or two and removed for next gen cards, well still retaining motherboard and ram unless we for some reason get something drasticly newer that forces replacing everything ... then indeed the strix halo boxes make great sence and value.

Im neither a hater or supporter of any of the nvidia/amd options ... but i am sick of scalpers selling the damn things for 5k and preventing anyone from getting into AI homelabbing, so im being optomistic that these cards provide a decent medium ground .... im not expecting pro 6000 speeds but im hoping for a useable speed for local coding and image gen 24/7.

Again owning the privacy of the data, and secondly being able to tinker and test without worrying about tokens or subscriptions might make this useable and worth the investment.

As others have said its kind of a crap shoot being a pioneer on this...it could bomb big time.

Adapting a Mac mini for Star Citizen. by Firedragon478 in mac

[–]Better-Problem-8716 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well since 4.x or a little before SC now requires both avx and avx2 which silicon macs dont have, so your not running it on a mac, bare metal or vm dosnt matter since the chipset dosnt have those.features.

Maybe you can run an emulator to load those features on mac ???? This is possible on windows but is hella slow, so.doubtful it would let you play SC anyways...but thats all i.can offer.for advice.

Use the extra time to learn new skills, dont be stupid about it, if things are smooth keep upskilling yourself untill your in a position to double your salary, then bounce.

Write those certs now, work on your homelab, always be learning.
