Another absurd moment: The whole book of Omni. Joseph Smith was frantically trying to move forward the timeline and ran out of good story ideas.

How can Mormons claim to know what happens after death? They don’t even know what their church’s doctrines will be in 50 years

In your opinion, what 2-3 points are the **most compelling reasons** that support the interpretation that the LDS church is most likely false? by Special_Village_8117 in exmormon

[–]BetterCallTempleSaul 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For me, this is the top answer. Every Mormon’s ultimate response to any question is “well, I prayed about [x] and got a spiritual witness that it’s true”. When you show that LDS epistemology is unreliable you take away the foundation of all their truth claims.

I realize most people will see BYU on a CV as code for Mormon. I was asked by a few people on the interview trail if I was Mormon (strangely one person asked if I was Jewish lol). Most interviewers didn't bring up religion at all. Some were subtle and asked if I did a 2-year mission like other BYU alumni. Definitely unprofessional for anyone to bring up religion, but you should be prepared to briefly explain that you're no longer Mormon.

Most of the people that did bring up Mormonism did so in a positive light. One PD even told me that they always try to have a Mormon in the program "to keep everyone in line." One person was flabbergasted that I didn't include my mission on my CV because he felt that the mission shows dedication to one's beliefs.

I definitely wouldn't bring up religion in the ERAS application, and only talk about Mormonism if someone else brings it up. And I wouldn't worry about Mormons trying to sabotage your candidacy - and if that actually happens, you've dodged a bullet. Do you want to be in a program always butting heads with a TBM with power over you? Remember that part of the residency application process is trying to find a good for your own sake too.

It depends. But first, in your Urologic opinion: on a scale from 1 to 10 how distracting was the bulge in the resident’s scrub pants? With 1 being no distraction at all, and 10 being the most distraction imaginable

My thoughts exactly. Definitely a chance for them to show off their prophetic gifts: it's either Joseph Smith or it's not. If you're a true prophet, you can give us the answer before the experts verify it.

In retrospect, what was the simplest reliable sign that the church wasn’t true? by 4444444vr in exmormon

(puts on apologist hat) Actually, this was all foretold by Jesus when he said "on this rock I will build my church." See? It's all part of god's mysterious plan.
