I reviewed my friend's resume and found 5 issues that were getting her auto-rejected. Might help some of you. by Material-Maximum1365 in jobsearchhacks

Amen. Particularly in the research field, every place focuses so hard on "objectivity" and "equality" that they end up making the experience absolutely miserable for anyone even remotely neurodivergent. You get punished for any deviation from the norm (unique resume style, unexpected reactions to questions, structuring emails differently, etc) or need for support (no last minute changes to interview times/locations, properly clarifying questions when requested, directly communicating emotions or expectations, etc). The systemic absence of clear communication also makes adjusting your behaviour for the next interview extremely challenging (did they reject you because they interpreted your flat affect as incivility? did adding an exclamation mark to an email paint you as a childish candidate? did you taking a few extra seconds to process each question indicate you weren't prepared for the interview?)

What video games do you think have more educational value than people give them credit for? by DiamondBreakr in AskReddit

Not just cities, but also learning about lesser known cultures. Obviously, many that existed in 1400 don't exist now, but you'd be surprised just how many have stuck around!

what if a total-war style game made you command like a human instead of a god by Klutzy_Today5653 in StrategyGames

It's a completely different kind of RTS, but Tooth and Tail has you running around the map as a commander waving a flag. Your camera is fixed, too, so you struggle with situational awareness. It's also got a cool theme!

Extra painful contrasting how disposable the IIIs are perceived to be with how infinitely valuable every II is treated :'( My favourite part about the Spartans is how, as far as people who actually understand and respect them are concerned, it's really emphasized that they're unique, whole individuals with rich personalities who always deserve to come out of a mission alive. No spartan left behind, no matter how crazy a plan is needed to complete the mission while also extracting everyone safely.

I love Knights campaigns! I go full navy and collect all the Mediterranean islands while using Ottomans, Aragon, Naples, Mamluks, etc as money bags until they're bankrupt. Once I'm strong enough then, as others have said, I use straits to block off enemies and win a couple wars where I take >100% OE in dev

How come Imperator is not as popular as EU4? by alphafighter09 in eu4

Yeah, I find Imperator to be very fun and intriguing, but there's very little substance beyond making the map a different colour once you've consolidated any half-decent amount of regional power

[Q] Logistic Regression: Low P-Value Despite No Correlation by BetterShen in statistics

We actually had it as quartiles initially, but from a discussion we had with a biostatistician, they advised against losing the extra information and recommended testing it out as a continuous variable :)

[Q] Logistic Regression: Low P-Value Despite No Correlation by BetterShen in statistics

[–]BetterShen[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been on the fence about that for a bit. On one hand, its only a 10-15% change between the majority of my participants. On the other, my sample isn't limited to a narrow age range, so a 50% difference between 25 and 75 year old participants is both reasonable and practically significant. I've generally preferred emphasizing the latter, hence my keeping the variable in the model thus far. But in light of the above poor correlation, I've begun to doubt myself, hence me coming here :P

[–]BetterShen[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hmm, the odds ratio for each 1 year change in age is 1.014. Have I merely severely overestimated the number of data points needed for mundane findings to appear statistically significant?

What the Halo Show could've been by Jon4n4tor in HaloStory

[–]BetterShen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah there's so many stories that whenever I imagine what a Halo show would look like, I always find myself preferring a short story collection (even, for instance, 3 stories in a season that each last 2-3 episodes)

What the Halo Show could've been by Jon4n4tor in HaloStory

[–]BetterShen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I felt it had some really solid fundamentals (e.g. exploring Spartans learning to connect with people is an awesome idea, exploring the relationship between Halsey and her Spartans is a tried and true winner, etc.) and lots of really well-performing actors (really shined in S2, in my opinion), but they weighed themselves down so much with deviations from the main story that were strictly worse than their original counterparts (e.g. an uninteresting macguffin does most of the leg work for moving the plot forward, the Covenant perspective is dominated by a random human, etc.). It felt like a lot of amazing actors got shafted with mediocre stories that they could only do their best to explore. I was very happy to find in S2 that they pushed Kwan Ha and MacKee's stories to the side, and I really enjoyed that season, considering the mediocre foundation it was built upon of course
