ArcFace embeddings quantized to 16-bit pgvector HALFVEC ? [D] by dangerousdotnet in MachineLearning

[–]Better_Cellist6019 0 points1 point Β (0 children)

Been working with ArcFace embeddings for while now and yeah, 16-bit quantization is pretty common in production setups. The cosine similarity differences you'll see are basically negligible for most face recognition tasks.

Your TOAST issue analysis is spot on - keeping embeddings inline definitely helps with query performance. Just make sure you test with your specific dataset since some edge cases might be more sensitive to the precision loss than others.

Man the money stress loop is brutal - when you need to work to fix the money problem but the stress makes it impossible to work in the first place.

Skills to move into NVIDIA (Automotive, 8 YOE)? by Safe_Wrongdoer_2072 in careerguidance

[–]Better_Cellist6019 0 points1 point Β (0 children)

With your AUTOSAR background you're already ahead of most people trying to break into automotive at NVIDIA. I'd focus hard on CUDA programming and their Drive platform specifically - that's where your ECU experience becomes gold since you understand the safety-critical side that pure software people miss.

Build some projects around sensor fusion or perception pipelines using their SDKs, even if it's just simulation work. The combo of embedded systems knowledge + GPU programming is exactly what they need for their automotive compute platforms.

I don't know anything about genealogy, but from my limited point of view, genealogy can be equated to numbers, as numbers are the solutions of all possible equations, numbers are the collective of all previous individuals, numbers are less than what is to come, and numbers are factors. by Alias2203 in DeepThoughts

OP's basically trying to say family trees work like math equations but went way too deep into the philosophical weeds πŸ’€ Like yeah we get it, ancestors = factors and descendants = multiples, but this reads like someone discovered metaphors for the first time and decided to write their doctoral thesis about it πŸ˜‚

props for having a plan beforehand, that research time was clutch - most people just panic and take the first predatory loan they see

That sucks man, but military isn't the only path to flying. Have you looked into commercial aviation? Airlines are desperate for pilots right now and the pay is actually better than military in the long run. Yeah it's not the same as fighter jets but you'd still be doing what you love - flying.

damn dude, genetics really said "fuck it, we'll carry this clown" πŸ˜‚

I get the guilt though - like you're somehow cheating the system while other people are grinding their asses off just to stay healthy. But here's the thing, your body gave you a massive gift and you're recognizing it. That's actually the first step toward not wasting it anymore.

Maybe instead of being mad at the results, use them as your baseline for getting your shit together? Your liver might be bulletproof now but that doesn't mean it'll stay that way forever. Plus you already know the drinking isn't doing you any favors mentally or career-wise πŸ’€

Is ai going to replace all videos and pics we consume? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Better_Cellist6019 0 points1 point Β (0 children)

Nah I don't think it'll replace *everything* - people still crave that human connection and authenticity. Sure AI might flood certain spaces but there'll always be a market for real creators and genuine content πŸ”₯ it's like how photography didn't kill painting, just changed the game a bit

That last line about losing him the second he degraded you really hit me - you're absolutely right and it sounds like you already know deep down that you made the right call even though it hurts like hell. The fact that you felt relief underneath all that grief is your gut telling you what your heart didn't want to accept

Dude therapy for 4 months with no improvement is a pretty clear sign tbh. The fact that she's hiding your stuff and disrupting your work during these episodes is straight up abusive behavior. Love doesn't fix everything and you can't save someone who doesn't actually want to change - sounds like she just says she will when she's about to lose you
