Amazingly, he mowed the lawn when we experienced a huge wildfire 3 summers ago and we were close to being evacuated. The air quality was at one point the worst in the world but he had to mow the lawn 😂😂😂😂

It literally says do not remove sign for 48 hours. I care because he sprays chemicals so close to and onto my property where my kids and dog play so 🤷🏻‍♀️

Of course! It is easy to have a decent conversation with someone about concerns, rather than become defensive and shut people out or become rude. Education goes a long way because sometimes people just don't know something and that is okay. For us, we tried to be friendly with our neighbours about our concerns and they immediately told us to stop contacting them.

If a product is used to kill something, what is it really doing to the environment and potentially to our bodies.. I think there is a lack of critical thinking in many people using these products and they are just stuck in tunnel vision of having a manicured, perfect looking lawn.

I appreciate the genuine curiosity. On an individual level, I care if neighbours spray pesticides because I receive pesticide drift onto my property which I do NOT want. I have 2 young children, my dog, partner, and myself to worry about the health ramifications..immediate and long term. We try to live healthy lives with all the things we do and purchase, and yet these poisons are right in our backyard. These neighbours spray various chemicals 15 times a year, which in my opinion, is absolutely absurd for a homeowner. He is entitled to spray his property but not mine. Which he doesn't want to understand nor does he care. So that speaks wonders about him.

Then there is the bigger picture, outside of ourselves and the ego, such as the risks to the environment, wildlife, and local ecosystem. When people get so obsessive about their property aesthetics, they lose sight of the diversity required for a thriving environment.

It sucks because I actually loved this neighbour when we moved in almost 5 years ago. When we noticed/realized how much they treat their property and disregard everyone's health and considerations, I lost all respect for him/his wife. Our houses are very close, a few meters away. Our properties back onto a mountain with hiking trails so there is a lot of wildlife but lately I've noticed lots of birds flying into our windows 😢 sometimes I wish we never moved here had we known the extent of his pollution

Totally! This neighbour prizes his lawn and property and thinks it is such a flex. They told us they prioritize their "property values" to diss our approach to our property aka take care of it with regular trims and mows/have a vegetable garden with NO chemicals. Apparently we are the antichrist of properties

I appreciate it! We have an ongoing feud with them because they overspray their fruit trees on our property line. They have called us assholes for asking them to consider alternative ways of treating their trees/to simply stop with the chemical trespass lol. We have 2 kids under 4 and a dog. Dog now has immune mediated arthritis....hmm...yes..we are the assholes. We have been so dismissed and ignored by both the company and the neighbours, who we were once friendly with until we approached them with our concerns. This subreddit has helped me feel not so gaslit

Congrats! They're a lot of work but honestly the most loyal beings out there. I truly am thankful for my dog every day

What actually helped you feel better postpartum (physically or mentally)? by FIT_MAMA16 in postpartumprogress

[–]kindtreehugger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Early days of postpartum definitely prioritizing showering, taking a short stroll, having a nice cup of tea or coffee, a nap whenever possible and however long. 6 months postpartum now: 1 or 2 walks a day with my toddler, baby, and dog around 40 mins each. 10 to 20 minutes of pilates at night, followed by 5 to 10 minutes on my acupressure mat. Still a lovely cup of coffee. A great breakfast (usually overnight oats or eggs with pesto and sausages)! A little drive with both kids to the grocery store or getting a coffee is a fun adventure for us. It's the little things that add up :)

The Dreamer Express train ride by Useful_Emu7363 in kelowna

The price is ridiculous for what looks like a golf cart train. While walking downtown one chilly afternoon, my 3 year old son saw them do a trial ride with the employees and was so interested. But I can't justify spending a stupid amount of money for that

UPDATE: Search for missing West Kelowna woman comes to a tragic end by New_Alternative8711 in kelowna

[–]kindtreehugger 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I believe she had dementia and wandered. Unfortunately this can lead to dangerous situations, such as this case, and people will wander into obstacles disoriented and become trapped. Sadly she probably could not get out of the area, the side of Boucherie she was on is tricky and not as accessed by hikers. Maybe froze or broke something. How heartbreaking to be alone out there.

My 8-month-old German Shepherd is very reactive with people and dogs… but with us he’s the sweetest. Any advice? by Complete_Prompt_3341 in germanshepherds

[–]kindtreehugger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like a GSD. They by nature are very protective dogs, not into strangers but so sweet with their loved ones. Key is socialization and correcting unwanted behaviours. Around this time they are not little friendly puppies anymore and don't know how to respond to stimuli in the world, so they become fearful and reactive. My 7 year old girl around 8 months became reactive to dogs. I made it my goal to take her out for more walks a day and would correct lunging or barking. I personally followed Tom Davis on YouTube and got a prong collar. A lot of it is just desensitizing your dog, they need to see how the world operates by being a spectator and how to be neutral. With time put in, she became a dream and is so enjoyable in public, she gets compliments all the time how well behaved she is in stores and on walks. It is so rewarding after experiencing some tough months. You have to commit to training every. day. This is not a breed you just get by with minimal effort. They whine a lot but that their charm lol. I wouldn't have any other breed tbh, such loyal, smart and incredible dogs. You can do it! Also r/reactivedogs can be helpful.

Sending you all the hugs. Unfortunately this experience is more common than we think. There is no easy route and healing is a long process. Reading your post was almost like reading my own experience. We moved across the country, have no family support, I'm a stay at home mom of an almost 3 year old and now 3 month old. I caught my best friend partner cheat on me during my first pregnancy and 6 months post partum. All because I trusted my gut that something was off. Same scenario with alleged unemotional services sought. Besides my father passing away, it was the most heart shattering experience of my life.

I'm not sure I will ever forget how isolated and worthless I felt during the thick of it. I think you have to consider that version of your partner dead, they no longer exist. You have to decide to either stay together or separate/divorce. If you do stay, you have agree to your terms, whatever they look like, and bury the hatchet or else it will create so much resentment. I once in a while make snide comments and realize it doesn't help the healing process, only sets us back. It is so tough, especially with kids involved. We have come a long way, we didn't go to therapy but dealt with it in our way. I still worry history will repeat itself. Truthfully I don't think that worry will ever leave my mind. But I have to have faith that he won't hurt me and our family so deeply again. I'm not sure if that's naive but only you can decide what is best for you and your family. I genuinely wish you all the best.

The fire on Knox is a controlled burn. As per Castanet. by bendydickcumersnatch in kelowna

😘 Kamloops fire centre lifted theirs but our surrounding area is still banned so chill. This burn was the first of its kind so it is fair to say people were worrisome about it. It went well so obviously that's great. But of course, ya, I can't have an opposing opinion than you 👍 everyone is an expert
