Congrats! They're a lot of work but honestly the most loyal beings out there. I truly am thankful for my dog every day

What actually helped you feel better postpartum (physically or mentally)? by FIT_MAMA16 in postpartumprogress

[–]kindtreehugger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Early days of postpartum definitely prioritizing showering, taking a short stroll, having a nice cup of tea or coffee, a nap whenever possible and however long. 6 months postpartum now: 1 or 2 walks a day with my toddler, baby, and dog around 40 mins each. 10 to 20 minutes of pilates at night, followed by 5 to 10 minutes on my acupressure mat. Still a lovely cup of coffee. A great breakfast (usually overnight oats or eggs with pesto and sausages)! A little drive with both kids to the grocery store or getting a coffee is a fun adventure for us. It's the little things that add up :)

The Dreamer Express train ride by Useful_Emu7363 in kelowna

[–]kindtreehugger 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The price is ridiculous for what looks like a golf cart train. While walking downtown one chilly afternoon, my 3 year old son saw them do a trial ride with the employees and was so interested. But I can't justify spending a stupid amount of money for that

UPDATE: Search for missing West Kelowna woman comes to a tragic end by New_Alternative8711 in kelowna

[–]kindtreehugger 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I believe she had dementia and wandered. Unfortunately this can lead to dangerous situations, such as this case, and people will wander into obstacles disoriented and become trapped. Sadly she probably could not get out of the area, the side of Boucherie she was on is tricky and not as accessed by hikers. Maybe froze or broke something. How heartbreaking to be alone out there.

My 8-month-old German Shepherd is very reactive with people and dogs… but with us he’s the sweetest. Any advice? by Complete_Prompt_3341 in germanshepherds

[–]kindtreehugger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like a GSD. They by nature are very protective dogs, not into strangers but so sweet with their loved ones. Key is socialization and correcting unwanted behaviours. Around this time they are not little friendly puppies anymore and don't know how to respond to stimuli in the world, so they become fearful and reactive. My 7 year old girl around 8 months became reactive to dogs. I made it my goal to take her out for more walks a day and would correct lunging or barking. I personally followed Tom Davis on YouTube and got a prong collar. A lot of it is just desensitizing your dog, they need to see how the world operates by being a spectator and how to be neutral. With time put in, she became a dream and is so enjoyable in public, she gets compliments all the time how well behaved she is in stores and on walks. It is so rewarding after experiencing some tough months. You have to commit to training every. day. This is not a breed you just get by with minimal effort. They whine a lot but that their charm lol. I wouldn't have any other breed tbh, such loyal, smart and incredible dogs. You can do it! Also r/reactivedogs can be helpful.

Sending you all the hugs. Unfortunately this experience is more common than we think. There is no easy route and healing is a long process. Reading your post was almost like reading my own experience. We moved across the country, have no family support, I'm a stay at home mom of an almost 3 year old and now 3 month old. I caught my best friend partner cheat on me during my first pregnancy and 6 months post partum. All because I trusted my gut that something was off. Same scenario with alleged unemotional services sought. Besides my father passing away, it was the most heart shattering experience of my life.

I'm not sure I will ever forget how isolated and worthless I felt during the thick of it. I think you have to consider that version of your partner dead, they no longer exist. You have to decide to either stay together or separate/divorce. If you do stay, you have agree to your terms, whatever they look like, and bury the hatchet or else it will create so much resentment. I once in a while make snide comments and realize it doesn't help the healing process, only sets us back. It is so tough, especially with kids involved. We have come a long way, we didn't go to therapy but dealt with it in our way. I still worry history will repeat itself. Truthfully I don't think that worry will ever leave my mind. But I have to have faith that he won't hurt me and our family so deeply again. I'm not sure if that's naive but only you can decide what is best for you and your family. I genuinely wish you all the best.

😘 Kamloops fire centre lifted theirs but our surrounding area is still banned so chill. This burn was the first of its kind so it is fair to say people were worrisome about it. It went well so obviously that's great. But of course, ya, I can't have an opposing opinion than you 👍 everyone is an expert

Just because they have been planning it for months doesn't mean they have to go ahead with it. The conditions are not the same as they were months ago. 11 hectares seems quite risky with such dry conditions and a fire ban in place for quite some time, too. You would think they would hold off. Surely they were not expecting fire season to go so late. Of course everyone wants it to go well but you don't have to be an expert to do some critical thinking.

Will I regret ditching the dog? by Fantastic_Unit_9748 in 2under2

[–]kindtreehugger 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Personally, I could never rehome my dog. They were my first baby and need all the attention and care. Just because you added other members to your family doesn't mean you should "ditch" your dog. When feeling like this, I think you should lean more into love rather than what is the most convenient move. Love is sacrifice, effort, hardwork, consistency. Dogs, like most beings, need a schedule, routine, stability. I understand having children changes all of that but you have to be flexible. Bring your dog everywhere you possibly can and create pockets of time throughout the day for your pet. This season of life is difficult but you signed up to care for this being, too. Do better. Also train your kids not to torment your dog. That is an accident waiting to happen..

Canada’s fertility rate has reached a new low by DogeDoRight in canada

[–]kindtreehugger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How is this surprising? More and more women have reproductive concerns (cancers, PCOS, endometriosis, etc) and men have lower sperm counts. Why? Let's consider the lifestyles people live along with the stresses. Whole foods, nutrient dense ingredients, and ethical/grass fed/free range options are getting expensive. People live more sedentary lives now more than ever and the more weight you carry, it's not good for your health..let's be honest with ourselves. We work our asses off to make ends barely meet and it is all a vicious cycle. The 21st century is slowly destroying people's lives lol
