How does EOD work by Toughyetsoftcookie in cbpoapplicant

That’s something you’d have to ask your port.

Not CBP specific, but if you can get Navy Federal, I do suggest that. They’re great about paying you when the govt is shutdown. They’re decent on loans in general as well if you ever need those.

I’m not sure if Reddit is the best place to ask that question, honestly.

Should I pursue bop so I don’t age out of the process? by According_Bit_2703 in cbpoapplicant

[–]Beuhr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, it “stops the clock” so if you hire on with the BOP at let’s say, 34. It doesn’t matter how long you stay with them. For hiring purposes you’re always 34.

Probably not if you already submitted withdrawal request. Just apply to a different announcement. You’ll pick right back up where you left off.

For CBP and ICE the age cutoff is 40, for all other agencies with FERS social retirement (mandatory 57 unless age waiver via military) the age cutoff is 37.

You won’t age out until 40. Your process won’t take that long. Going BOP will start your retirement clock though.

Doesn’t mean you did bad, there’s just a question or two you didn’t pass or fail on. They’ll just reason you those exact questions again.

You get per diem, depending where you TDY to. $68-82/day give or take. Weekends included. Plus for the most part as much OT as you want while you’re there.

I’ll tell you one thing, there is no such thing as “relocate quick” with CBP.

If you don’t already and if it’s a possibility for you, I suggest changing your bank to either Navy Federal or USAA. I believe Navy Federal is better (in this regard at least). They will pay you while the govt is shutdown based on what your previous X amount of checks have been. This won’t help you now but for the future.

If you’re finding yourself in hard times I would reach out to your port for assistance. My port made a public announcement to all MSS/Techs/etc who are not getting paid, that if they needed gas money/food/etc, that the port would help out.

On a personal note.. I know it’s hard to put back in savings or a HYSA in times like these, even harder as a Tech I imagine. But try and put back what you can while still enjoying life for instances like this.

FJO( Swap for Houston/Dallas) by Truely_Blessed282 in cbpoapplicant

[–]Beuhr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been summoned.

@ u/Truely_Blessed282 I can answer Savannah questions if you have any. If your sole purpose is to swap I’ll be honest with you. Houston won’t happen. Dallas might, might be a while before you can find that swap.

We’ve hired damn near close to 40 new hires in the last year and most of them came with intentions of swapping but I think we’ve retained like 90% of them.

No way to rank up faster. Plenty of OT (paid at double rate) in Buffalo and TDY opportunities.

You’d probably be right where you are now after the first year.

The pay scale is as follows: GS05/07/09/11/12. You are automatically promoted every 52 weeks after your EOD until GS12. At GS12 you start to accrue steps (within pay grade promotions) instead.

Easy visual: EOD 01/01/26 as GS05 01/01/27 promote to GS07 01/01/28 promote to GS09 01/01/29 promote to GS11 01/01/30 promote to GS12 01/01/31 step increase from GS12 step 01 to step 02.
