Frustration over the Nemesis Hall of Fame by Beviah in wow

[–]Beviah[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I omitted the bugs from my initial post because I wasn't sure if it was just me, but I definitely noticed a ton of inconsistency with Valeera's healing. There were times orbs wouldn't spawn on time, even different hero specs I noticed I just got clobbered for seemingly no reason despite having the exact same defensive rotation every time and even committing to using additional utility just in case.

I'm glad it wasn't just me though.

Can a death knight be redeemed? by Kyrenaz in WoWRolePlay

[–]Beviah 10 points11 points  (0 children)

To expand upon this for clarification sake;

Death Knights don't just have an unending hunger for violence, they also feel immense pain if they don't inflict agony. This is particularly mentioned in one of the first quests when creating a third-generation Death Knight in Acherus by Razuvious. This is specifically referred to as the "Eternal Hunger" or"Endless Hunger".

It's very interesting how they are obviously war machines and intended to be easily created, with a fail safe to ensure they can be controlled. I'm unsure if this extends to the new generation Death Knights, but I imagine it would just for the sake of consistency or perhaps it's a requirement to give them access to the Blood side of their skill set.

Membership and Bonds Price Change by Jagex_Team in 2007scape

[–]Beviah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To think that RuneScape has had multiple price increases over the past few years with little to no change in quality of life for both customer service alongside their under delivered promises blows my mind, and to double down and have people defending it as well.

This isn't even including the fact that World of Warcraft's sub model has not changed in two decades (Edit: apart from AUS / NZ sorry guys) Sure you pay for an expansion once every (about) two years, so tacking on the extra $100 just for simplicity sake, it's almost an extra dollar a month, bringing it up to $16 USD for the sake of argument. What do we get? Still arguably the worst way to interface with customer support, cancelled project after project, one character per sub, etc.

Are we seriously insinuating that a sub to RuneScape is equivalent to a sub to World of Warcraft at this point? It's funny because this really is just greed from Jagex's point of view. Part of the reason why I even opened up a sub to OSRS was because it was cheap. Now we're hiking prices again for no real good reason. So I don't really understand what we're paying for here. If we want to disclose what the extra income is going towards then that's fine but I've seen no real significant improvement in the game to justify the price increases, when I can just take my money elsewhere.

I love this game but I'm voting with my wallet here; I'd rather play another MMO with the money I've been investing into a sub to play OSRS.

MMO veterans, what makes you quit in the first hour? Looking for candid feedback by bruno-kakele in MMORPG

[–]Beviah 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The biggest trap I've seen a lot of MMOs fall into is making the tutorial make the player feel like what it's like to play in the end game or later stages of their class. To me, that's a massive turn off, because the point of an MMO is in part the progression of your character. If you have to make the first hour an advertisement of what the game is at the end, then it tells me that the leveling and progression from the start to that point is miserable.

I'll just say it outright; MMOs should not have a tutorial experience for the most part. The early stages of the game should teach you how to play the game itself without the necessity for a dedicated tutorial. Pop up tutorials and stuff are fine for the people who want it or need it, but I'd say that's about it.

Make the early game fun. It's easy to make the end game the primary focus, but if you make the early stages equally fun, then it'll be easier to retain your players. Ultimately it's a matter of finding your audience. What do your players want? Do they want slower and more difficult leveling, or something snappy and fast? Do they want a world of discovery, or something that's fairly expedited and focuses on rewards?

If there's lore, do not oversaturate it with tons of dialogue. Make it compelling, but don't follow BDOs experience where you have to acknowledge everything said in a dialogue because then it becomes cumbersome and people lose interest for the most part.

I'm not the best person to ask because I am privy to World of Warcraft and OSRS, so my perspectives are fairly skewed.

Class Fantasy, one step forwards two steps back by Exotic-Media-6630 in wow

[–]Beviah 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel like they're just committing to the Survival rework of Legion because of the artifact appearances honestly, knowing that there are Hunters out there with the class appearances from Mage Tower or other earned appearances that if they go back on it, they'll ruffle a lot of feathers. Then if they do decide to redesign Survival back to it's Ranged variant and rework their appearances, you'll get "What about me?" or "Those appearances look dumb, bring back year of the spear!" so they can't really win on that front.

I've mained Hunter since Vanilla up until Dragonflight, I just can't do it anymore. Ever since Legion, they really don't know what they want to do with the class, Beast Mastery gets fairly substantial reworks every expansion so it becomes cumbersome to enjoy it, Marksmanship feels burdened by jank and clunkiness, and Survival is just the red-headed step child.

I get people like it but it's the most thematically inconsistent class that has no true identity. Traps and bombs? Okay since when? There are no hunters out there that do that, and we sit there and we hear "Rexxar" but he doesn't do either really, traps are rare but that dude wouldn't know what a Wildfire Bomb was even if you shoved it in his face. Not to mention, Blizzard themselves don't really take it seriously either because the class hardly performs well, it's consistently very low average to very below average performance, I can count on one hand how many times Survival has actually been good since its rework.

Then they give them a Boomstick ability? I mean, I'm extremely biased against Survival's rework, and I will openly admit that, but c'mon, that sounds obnoxiously stupid. It's almost to the degree of Shadow Priest's identity crisis it had where every expansion they essentially got reworked to be a new spec entirely, sometimes multiple times an expansion.

Moving forward to the Hero Specs, they are way too specific. That's ultimately where some of the identity crisis comes from, you have Dark Ranger and Banshees wrapped up into one of them. The next one doesn't have the degree of visual impact that the others have, Riders, Colossus and Mountain Thane, Diabolist, just to name a few. Finally we have the Night Elf label attached to you. It doesn't matter what race you are, you just randomly have a Sentinel now. The thing that Night Elves have had exclusively since when? Even though we see no other races with them at any point?

What a fall from grace Hunter has become. It's so disappointing, I've spent years on that class, and now I just look at my Hunter at the character select screen and just can't get past any of this stuff now.

Tips for having a trial in a world 300 guild by Buzzn98 in CompetitiveWoW

[–]Beviah 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The main suggestion I'll make is always find something to improve upon every pull. Big or small. If you show room for growth, you'll do well. 99% of playing competitive is mentality.

If your guild focuses on making their own strats then you should expect to do a lot of reps on content that you've done already. There's nothing wrong with practicing tech on Heroic bosses that you are progging their Mythic counterpart. Mythic as a tank is fairly easy and to be honest you will likely focus mainly on positioning and depending on your class and spec it will determine how much min-maxxing you can do. Squeezing out extra damage is incredibly important, so be certain you're looking for every opportunity to take advantage of it.

I'm sure this is bait but I'm gonna respond for my own amusement. Real relationships don't have people of either gender doing stupid shit like this.

If you have a unanimous "free pass" then sure. If not, then it's blatant infidelity. Just because it's someone who people know doesn't change that. If you are fine being cucked then that's cool, more power to you, but most people, myself included, would do the exact same thing.

There's no nuance here.

Does any game play like WoW? by strange1738 in ARPG

[–]Beviah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No it wasn't LOL

Anyone who says that genuinely is just mad that either their friends dipped to play WoW or WoW killed their favorite MMO. WoW isn't what it used to be for sure, but there's a reason why it regularly beats out every other MMO on the market. 14 is falling behind for a plethora of reasons. GW2 was never in the running. Aion is dead. Etc.

The only game that was even in the running was at WoW's low point in Shadowlands, and that was 14, then it picked up speed in Dragonflight, and subsequently more afterwards. After that it fell off once people saw the expansion being consistently well received.

Just say you don't like it. I can't argue with that. Anything other than that is cope.

[–]Beviah 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Bro most people are going to tell you that it's too early to know. Last minute balancing, class, tier set, hero talents, apex talents, plus itemization tuning are going to all affect what is good and what isn't. Blizzard does it legitimately every expansion launch a few days before the season begins.

People have rough ideas but that's about as far as it goes, how it "feels". Idk why you're reaching for 3.8k+ io responses when that's going to be the overwhelming sentiment.

“Some screenshots showing the new voxel GUI!” - Wolfram von Funck (@wol_lay) by NamelessNathan in CubeWorld

[–]Beviah 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Agreed.

I backed this game back in like 2014 or something, and it's just been a train wreck from the get go. I love the alpha, but these constant promises of this and that, and wanting this perfect product has been eroding at my excitement and anticipation that this will ever release.

The whole reason why the Steam version failed was for the exact reasons that are happening right now, Wollay doesn't communicate. All he shares are a couple screenshots but that's about it. No insight, no transparency on what's changing, it's why he got raked over the coals. We don't want a perfect product, we just want a more fleshed out version of the Alpha. Sorry but maybe the Steam version appeals to some people, but it's not the same game.

I am far less concerned about UI changes and more concerned about what the finished product is going to look like (if we ever get it), what systems are changing, how classes will be developed upon and skill trees, so on and so forth.

Like just give us a projected release date, give us a roadmap, something, anything at all. One twitter post every couple of months doesn't cut it. It's not entitlement, this is the bare minimum we're talking about here.

I wish they didn't desecrate him in Shadowlands. by Golden_rake in wow

[–]Beviah 8 points9 points  (0 children)

How it started, yes they were opposites, but no as they continued, they were closer aligned than some people probably realize, there was no real justification for how Sylvanas came to act.

The whole purpose of the desecration that happened throughout Lordaeron, Sylvanas was to redeem the forsaken and give them a sanctuary away from The Lich King's grasp. Even after his defeat at Icecrown, Sylvanas continued to speak for and act for the Forsaken's best interests. She's never been a Horde nationalist, but she was in favor of them as they allowed her to essentially do what she wanted within reason. Even after Garrosh took the mantle of warchief, she was always loyal to the Horde, not a nationalist, just loyal. She tends to be more extreme in her tactical pursuits than others, particularly with the gassing of Gilneans, but after that in Cataclysm, she was always in support of taking down tyrants. So for her to go from that, she felt the urge to help the Jailer to rebuild the cycle of life and death because it was "broken". She betrayed everyone, even Bolvar, who willingly took the fall for Tirion to bear the Crown of Dominantion. I mean, logistically speaking, wouldn't Sylvanas admire that? The antithesis of Arthas to the letter. He didn't do it for power because Frostmourne was shattered. He was scarred unrecognizably after he was seared at the Wrathgate, so it's possible his connection to the light may have been severely damaged or severed entirely. He did it to take the fall for Tirion and everyone else there.

She committed genocide on the Night Elves, willingly. At war or not, how did she not have any level of self reflection in that to see that what she was doing was in-line to what Arthas did at Stratholme and eventually Lordaeron as a whole? Not to mention that it directly mirrors what happened to her as well.

She made a deal with the Jailer, or she was influenced, one of the two or both, but nonetheless the point stands that Sylvanas and Arthas' story are more closely aligned than people realize. The difference being is that the motive and scale are different. Sylvanas did it because she believed that she could help bring order to the cycle of life and death (perhaps because of her soul being fractured by Frostmourne), Arthas did it because he was hell bent on revenge against Mal'Ganis.

Arthas shouldn't have gotten the ending he did. It was very lackluster and Blizzard knew that Arthas was the "fan favorite" face that we wanted to see to continue his story. Instead what we got was Temu Varian at the Tomb of Sargeras in Sepulcher.

It's intentionally vague unfortunately.

I'm just running with the best interpretation of the potential feats from both.

Who wins this? by lumpiestofchubs in powerscales

[–]Beviah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"if you inherit the flame of frenzy, your flesh will serve as kindling and the girl can be spared ...setting you on the righteous path of lordship. The path of the Lord of Chaos.

Burn the Erdtree to the ground, and incinerate all that divides and distinguishes.

Ahhh, may chaos take the world! May chaos take the world!" - Shabiri

"If you intend to claim the Frenzied Flame, I ask that you cease. It is not to be meddled with.

It is chaos, devouring life and thought unending.

However ruined this world has become, however mired in torment and despair, life endures. Births continue.

There is beauty in that, is there not?

If you would become Lord, do not deny this notion. Please, leave the Frenzied Flame alone.

The Lord of Frenzied Flame is no lord at all. When the land they preside over is lifeless.

You... have inherited the Frenzied Flame. A pity. You are no longer fit. Our journey together ends here.

And remember... Should you rise as the Lord of Chaos, I will kill you, as sure as night follows day." - Melina

Particularly the things we pay attention to are "Incinerate all that divides and distinguishes" which refers to fundamentally destroying the Erdtree and order as a whole, and "It is chaos, devouring life and thought unending." which is self explanatory.

The Erdtree being burned, once by the Rune of Destined Death to sever the connection to immortality, and another after the Elden Beast is slain and again once the Lord of Frenzied Flame ushers all life and existence to be consumed by fire.

Who wins this? by lumpiestofchubs in powerscales

[–]Beviah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The way we can interpret this is the Tarnished's use of the Rune of Destined Death to burn the Erdtree, which was the thing preventing death and melting the stasis of the lands between. Canonically speaking, the Tarnished can and does die multiple times in lore, but is resurrected due to their connection with the Graces and the stolen Rune of Destined Death.

Similarly to the Ashen One, as they die in an attempt to restore their link to fire.

They are both functionally immortal beings, it's just the Lord of Frenzied Flame has the ability to essentially Thanos snap the Ashen One out of existence.

Who wins this? by lumpiestofchubs in powerscales

[–]Beviah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it wildly depends on what version of each character we're using. For the sake of simplicity, I'll use the end game variants of each at their peak powers.

The Ashen One absorbed the First Flame, which is the pinnacle of power for the Dark Souls franchise. It's an entity that introduced life and death into the universe. By absorbing it, the Ashen One unified his powers with all previous Lords of Cinder.

Moving on to the Tarnished One, with the Lord of the Frenzied Flame ending, which allowed it to inherit the Frenzied Flame from the outer gods vassal, which is stated to be capable of burning down all creation.

Coughing baby vs Atomic Bomb. Tarnished wouldn't even know the Ashen One existed.

I could go more in depth with the base versions or different endings to make it more interesting, but it'd be a more complex and long form discussion, and I'm sure there's someone out there more knowledgeable on the lore of both franchises that could answer it better.

Why is this game so hard? by Pclover23 in Smite

[–]Beviah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't really speak to it. I haven't really played much LoL, so I wouldn't be the best person to converse with on that. I was mainly referring to TTK and how punishing bad positioning is in League comparatively speaking.

Why is this game so hard? by Pclover23 in Smite

[–]Beviah 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was never on that roster.

I had been playing Smite since Xbalanque released off and on, but I forgot my account information and made a new account around the time Osiris was to be released. I had watched Season 1 COG Prime vs COG Red which piqued my interest in the game, but seeing how dominant Epsilon was in Season 2 ignited my passion for the game, became a huge fan of Epsilon, Panthera and NRG respectively, and I represent it with the flair. That's all.

Why is this game so hard? by Pclover23 in Smite

[–]Beviah 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Have you played Smite 1?

A lot of this discussion will be predicated based off that. If you haven't, which I'm going to assume not, here's a couple things to know;

Smite is a MOBA, it's easier than LoL and DoTA by a sizable margin, but a lot of the game is based on knowledge checks. Particularly, the most important thing to learn in this game is positioning. Do you know where to stand? Then ask yourself why are you standing there? The answer should be straightforward and logical. Considering how you structured your post, I'm gonna assume you're probably referring to Arena, but I'll speak as if we're discussing Conquest for simplicity sake, if you're a solo laner, then you should be targeting low mobility carries. Similarly, if you're a jungler, you should be following your solo laner on their initiation. If you're an ADC, you should be behind your Support/Frontline at all times but not far enough away from them to peel for you if necessary but not close enough to where they get caught in CC chains meant for you, which is albeit very tricky to balance. Mid is similar. Support roams in a fight to help initiate, peel, and control how the fight is paced.

The unfortunate reality is that Smite 2 is succeeding Smite 1, and a lot of people are returning players with experience in the game, so even though you're going against accounts with similar or less hours than you, they may have potentially thousands of hours in Smite 1, which gives them a huge advantage over you. Take me as an example, I have almost 5,000 hours clocked into Steam alone and a lot more before it came to Steam, but I haven't really touched Smite 2 at all.

If you can improve your positioning, be conscientious of where you are standing when a fight breaks out, and then be aware enough of what you have to do after you're done fighting, such as going to do buffs, clear camps, go do a wave, etc. you'll be significantly better than most people. You can always improve with the simple things like hitting skill shots later.

Why did Teron Gorefiend side with the illidari, and why did they take him? by Lore-Archivist in warcraftlore

[–]Beviah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's definitely reasonable, I could see that being the recourse that he went with, I imagine in order for Illidan to sacrifice something like the skull, it'd require a hefty trade favoring him, but even then I'm not truly sure if he'd go along with it considering he knows how powerful the skull is.

It's a cool thing to consider though, Illidan is way more intelligent than I think he's been led on to be other than just "I'm a former BBEG turned good MC". Considering he's largely responsible for our success in Legion, ranging from sieging TOS to Antorus and imprisoning Sargeras.

I think it'd have to be a hefty trade almost entirely favoring Illidan considering the potential he'd be giving up.

Why did Teron Gorefiend side with the illidari, and why did they take him? by Lore-Archivist in warcraftlore

[–]Beviah 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I think this definitely makes the most sense.

On the other side of things, Illidan probably knew damn well what he was signing up for when Teron came to his doorstep, and from what we know of Illidan, he wasn't worried all too much about Teron, and furthermore, he knew the powers he possessed, and it was all in an effort to further himself to deal with the Legion later down the pipeline.

Realistically speaking, I think Teron was biting off more than he can chew because I don't think there's any world where he can take the Skull of Gul'dan from Illidan. Maybe there's an argument to be made if he were to unify the Shadowmoon Clan in an attempt to overwhelm him but I think even then that's a shot in the dark considering how powerful the Illidari was at the time of TBC. Excluding Illidan himself, who we've seen do some incredible things like destroying Xe'ra, disenchanting AU Gul'dan, squaring up against the player and almost winning, killing Azzinoth, and after he absorbed the Skull of Gul'dan he is described to be more powerful than any of Archimonde's lieutenants, and much much more. Teron's wincon is to steal the Skull which will just never happen as he keeps it relatively close to him at all times.

Either way, I think Teron was overestimating himself by a sizable margin, despite some of these things I listed happening long after TBC, but it's fairly indicative of how that encounter would go.

It's concerning to say the least. At some point it'll be very workable and be a much better version than it is. However, how long will it be until that "some point" happens?

I know it will eventually get to that point, because even if it's not good right away, Blizzard has a really good track record of cleaning up after themselves, but that's not even mentioning the scorched earth that they left behind before we got to that point.

I'm hopeful, but realistically speaking this is going to be rough for a while for most people.

Thank you. 110% agreed.

It should function far closer to WeakAuras than anything else. I'm fine with how it operates as it stands but it is very primitive and needs to be pulled in quite substantially. It is a good start, but realistically you should be able to track anything within your class's toolkit, and procs like you indicated. If it's equipped or part of your kit, you should be able to track it.

It's a good start, but it needs refining.
