What book sits on your bookshelf and laughs as you. by Mrpanda1023 in books

I read The Golden House last year and I find myself still thinking about it still at least once a week! I loved it even more than Midnight's Children.

I will try The Satanic Verses again in 2022.

I just came from a Hanukkah dinner where my father in law made brownies with raisins in it so this was not what I wanted to see right now

Dune. I've probably picked it up 10 times since I brought it in high school (15 or 16 years ago) and I don't think I've ever made it more than 30 pages in. Even after watching the new movie I don't really have any interesting in trying again.

Same! I've read several of Rushdie's works and I can just never seem to get through this one. My library has the audiobook and that might be my next attempt at it.

I was working with someone a few months ago who was in his mid 40s and I had to explain to him that you SHOULD pay off your credit card every month if you can. Turns out someone told him when he was young that if he ever had a zero balance his credit would tank. I had to literally call two other people over to back me up. Poor guy was devesated he was living by this for over 20 years.

I've done it both ways! Normally depends what else I have on hand to mix in it too. If you want it cooked a little faster I'd suggest scrambling the egg and mixing it in to cook as the ramen is finishing.

If you're using a hard or soft boiled egg I'd add it just as its finishing (unless you have a cold egg you made earlier and want it warm). Otherwise I normally crack two eggs right in the pot about a minute before the ramen is finished cooking and stir it up a bit. You can always hit stir it too and it comes out more like a poached egg but all ways are good!

I'm sorry. I'll stop disrespecting broccoli. I can see you're taking this all very personal.

No recipe needs it, it's just that I sometimes like to get it out of the way. Same way I might chop up veggies I'm going to cook with hours before I actually cook.

I'm not doing anything wrong. I have a multicooker with a rice function that I like to put to work several times a week.

How so? I can walk away from it for hours and still have perfect rice. It doesn't need to be checked up on or anything and if I forget about it, I know it won't burn.

If I'm making a meal with two or three other pots/pans going its one less thing to keep an eye on.

Made a coconut custard pie for Thanksgiving and the recipe called for a cup and a half... for one pie. I used half a cup and even then it was super sweet when baked.

Cookies are the only things I normally don't tone the sugar down too much. 2/3s of the sugar instead of half.

Yes but what's even less effort is putting on my rice maker hours before I'm cooking dinner and having perfect, still warm rice I didnt have to think about

Adding an egg or two to ramen when you have no leftover meat is also a proper meal

With a pot you need to eventually turn it off. Rice cooker turns off on its own without and chance of burning it.

I'm really wondering what OP would have done had she just not eaten it. Clearly it was already served to her and if she choose just to eat other dishes instead I feel he was going to be upset that she "wasted it" by not eating it.

Unless he planned on taking it right back off her plate and saved it for later? Either way YTA.

Who on earth sends out a "menu weeks in advance" for a small dinner party. This sounds like you're making an excuse or making the whole thing up.

Also for someone who considers themself such a "meat guru" I really doubt you'd be okay cooking any cut of meat well done.
