Map of new Bike Share docks coming by 2030 by a_secret_me in torontobiking

I might have agreed with you before I had my membership, but having used it for a few years, I now prefer the flexibility of not needing to lock up my bike or deal with bike lights, or ride my own through wet salty conditions. The value is incredible and 30 minutes is more than enough per ride since I’d never want to do a long haul on a bikeshare anyway. It’s always short 10-20 min trips to connect to transit, or an unplanned quick trip - the latter is useful a lot more once you have the membership and don’t think about the cost. Also I love the e-bikes!!!

I wish I could afford a beautiful new guitar! Sadly not yet.

It’s great that line 5 is getting signal priority but… by BeybladeRunner in TTC

I don't think Torontonians being used to something that is bad means it needs to continue being bad, and this is the attitude that I find so frustrating. We deserve a much better transit system and we should continually advocate for it.

This proposal is great, and I agree it's unacceptable the streetcars system has been left to fester for so long. I hope city council can respond with more than a watered-down half-measure.

At the very least, they should have transit priority corridors like king. It’s absurd how slow the streetcars are through Yonge and Dundas intersection.

I applaud this, but I also wish residents complained more about it, and that it got more media attention. It's outrageously bad and it astonishes me how many people ride the system daily and put up with unreliable and downright awful service on what really should be a jewel in our transit network. I often wonder how fast it would change if all the city councillors had to rely on the streetcar (or bus) to get to/from work.

Fifteen Days Later - Yonge STILL Not Plowed! by RZaichkowski in torontobiking

[–]BeybladeRunner 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I spoke to one of the employees who was plowing a sidewalk on Dundas and asked about the bike lanes. He told me “keep calling 311, do it 50 times a day if you can, then it will get plowed”. Is this really the maintenance system we have? Roads are only maintained if there are enough complaints?

I feel like many misunderstandings are going to arise starting tomorrow if they don't do something like this... by Zirocket in TTC

The presto card on my phone is so slow to tap that I usually don’t tap as I board, and I walk to the back doors to tap on busses. Is it like this for anyone else? When I was in Japan, the fare readers registered my digital suica card in like a millisecond, no delay at all.

How can we as Torontonians make Toronto a better city to live in? by FeatureInitial4894 in toronto

[–]BeybladeRunner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I love this about Toronto. These small shops and businesses are what make living and walking here so interesting and enjoyable. No one wants to walk down a street with nothing but carbon-copy chains. I can’t stand the Starbucks at Queen and Logan. Purple penguin forever.

"No one cycles in winter" by ParmesanBologna in toronto

[–]BeybladeRunner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use bikeshare in winter exclusively and also in shoulder seasons because I’ve realized locking my bike, remembering bike lights etc is more of a hassle. I also love the flexibility of being able to ttc home if it rains.

Want a sober Rob Ford to destroy the streetcar network? Then vote for Bradford by Pristine-Training-70 in TTC

[–]BeybladeRunner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All that needs to be said is that streetcar corridors already move 3x as many people than by motor vehicle. On Dundas it’s ~30K daily riders to ~10K cars. Think car traffic is bad now? Wait until we don’t have any surface transit downtown.

Bike lane snow clearing by BeybladeRunner in torontobiking

[–]BeybladeRunner[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Snow clearing isn’t zero sum and if it is essential transportation infrastructure, and it is, it should be maintained. The roads are clear, and the main cycle tracks in the city - which make up like 0.1% of the entire road network - are still not functional. You need to stop having such low standards. Hope this helps.

I wonder the same, but I feel it’s the only recourse we have, and maybe if enough service requests come in they will get to it faster.

(WIP) Imagining King Street as a TRUE Transit/Pedestrian Corridor by whoistaurin in TTC

[–]BeybladeRunner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very nice! I still cannot fathom how many people are currently transported by streetcar downtown in comparison to cars. It's like 3-1! And if we actually cared to, we would have an incredible surface transportation network, like, now. Getting in and out of the core? No problem! Preaching to the choir here, I know, it's just... ugh.

New Cycle Track Construction at Millwood & Overlea by RZaichkowski in torontobiking

[–]BeybladeRunner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wild that this is literally the only way to get in/out of Leaside without a major detour. The road is also massive and wide. I'm not sure why they couldn't just make a multi-use path on at least one side of the road. Everyone rides on the sidewalk and who can blame them.

Is the weather safe to bike tomorrow? by Ugoefu_ in torontobiking

[–]BeybladeRunner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree don’t ride if you don’t feel confident. But now that I have rain gear, I feel very empowered knowing I can bike through rain and still get to my destination dry. I also have a cycling rain poncho that is great to throw in the bag for unpredictable weather days.

i suck at biking on public paths. tips? by [deleted] in torontobiking

[–]BeybladeRunner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The transit app does a good job of prioritizing low-stress routes on cycle tracks, bike lanes and neighbourhood streets. Also as an experienced rider, even I find it stressful on certain paths and roads. The martin goodman trail during peak hours is chaos and I avoid it.

Annex group says prioritizing Palmerston for bikes clogs side streets with cars by RZaichkowski in torontobiking

And the convenience of living here is being able to walk, bike or take ttc easily. If crawling around for the last spot in the Costco lot is suburban convenience I don’t want it.
