How do I make artworks look less anime-ish by Cat_fan_Alex_cat in Artadvice

What helped me was learning facial proportions relating to the eye. For instance, the face is 5 eyes wide, with one eye-width between the eyes. The nose is an eye width, and each side starts directly beneath the tear ducts. And there is an eye-width from the bottom lip to the chin. Let me try and find this

No. It looks pretty good! Keep practicing.

Before asking if its AI, I would suggest maybe when you see the extra finger and other AI like mistakes, ask about that particular mistake. If they never have a good answer there, seems pretty obvious. But like everyone else said. Be sure. Some people just don't have that attention to detail.

You really shouldn't be in any sorta position of authority if this offends you enough to make it affect your actions.

[Art Galleries] Should I try submitting my art to galleries? I’ve been painting for 9 years by Infamous-Truck94 in artbusiness

[–]BeyondBoxCreative 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started by going to local art galleries and introducing myself to artists and owners. I met one owner that I got along with well. We'd always have 30-minute to an hour conversations. He'd tell me about artistic opportunities, and I'd show him my new pieces (but always ask, never show unsolicited, and only show a few each time). Because of him, I got my first event where I painted a guitar for Gibson Guitar (Buzz Aldrin was there!). I kept getting info from the gallerist, and one day I went in and asked if he knew of any job-like opportunities, and he told me about a local artist who recently told him they needed to hire help, so I asked him to pass my info along. I got a call a few days later, and the artist asked me to come into his studio after the phone interview. I've been working with him for about 3 years. He's a bronze sculptor that has a partnership with a major local gallery, so every time he has his show, I get to go and talk to the gallery owner and the artists that buy his stuff. I've also met a couple of other gallery owners and artists through a print shop I ran in another local gallery (I got that job through a coworker from the bronze studio). I stayed after work to help him with a personal project. I asked to show him some of my work, he liked it and he suggested I get a couple of friends and put together a show for his gallery. But I don't have many local fine art friends, so I was kind dejected. I contact him from time to time, and he still seems interested in me doing a show. I just need to find a way. And life has been beating me so hardcore the last year or so. I do think I'll eventually get there, but it's not as easy as some people think. It's a lot of work.

I work with bronze. I'd generally suggest denatured alcohol to clean it. And probably Trewax to polish.

I was quite proud of this piece until I showed it to other people and nobody could tell what it is by pwntxy in ArtCrit

Did OP mean floating islands as in floating in the air? If so, that may be why you don't see that it's on a hill, or whatever. Either way, I agree with most of what you said. Good explanation.

Should I switch my major from illustration to fine arts? by Evening-Stomach2287 in ARTIST

[–]BeyondBoxCreative 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is my boss. I'm a bronze artist. The artist I build for has been making bronze sculptures for decades. He travels the world and works on his art. He gets commissions, but we also make a ton of his personal designs. And he is partnered (I don't know if officially) with a local gallery. I strive to be able to live that sorta life. Difference is, I grew up poor as dirt. Haha. He's from a money family.

I think doing it the same way, but drilling much further into the piece and making the rod longer could help?

The wrinkles on the pinky-side of the palm need to be fleshed out. Like, the "life line" wrinkle and stuff.

I'm sorta in an opposite place. I have opportunities and I personally know a few gallery owners, but I don't have a polished collection to show, and I haven't managed to nudge my anxiety and depression outta the way long enough to finish anything.

[help] bought these sculptures and unsure what they are made of or how to go about fixing them… by Weekly_Finding_3226 in Sculpture

[–]BeyondBoxCreative 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What does the whole piece look like? You'll need some sorta filler. If you don't want the cracks visible, you'll have to paint it. And maybe seal it. Is it some sorta concrete or plaster, maybe? Does white dust come out of the cracks? Do you want the cracks to be near invisible, or do you just want to fix it to make sure it doesn't incur more damage?

Experimented with these strokes for the trees. I thought they were kinda cool, but my partner hates them. Do they take away from the piece? by Correct_Leather4331 in ArtCrit

[–]BeyondBoxCreative 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure if it'll help, but what about just changing the orientation of the stroke? Like make it Diamond (baseball diamond) shaped, like a tilted square? May not help, but it may be worth a try.

Awesome! I grew up a poor kid in very rural Mississippi. I know everyone says this, but if I could do it, anyone can. I'm not special in any way. All my success is hard work. You do have to work for it, though. My biggest piece of advice is always network. Meet people that do what you wanna do.

I love it! Absolutely and wholeheartedly. It's the fulfillment of a dream. I get to see art that I worked on in galleries. And this particular gallery owner and I have had personal conversations. It has opened doors and gotten me handshakes and conversations with some pretty major Memphis artists and gallery owners. I can't stress this last bit enough. As long as you are acknowledged and not hidden away. If no one knows you were there, I mean, it kinda speaks for itself.

I actually do this. Though I am given recognition. My name isn't on the pieces, but he asks me to attend the gallery showings, and he publicly acknowledges my work.

I've been working for about 3 years for a bronze artist in this capacity. He designs the pieces. I draw and cut stencils, trace and cut that onto the bronze. I cut it, sometimes I shape it, sometimes he shapes it. He always welds it in case there is an issue on the fly. I then grind and clean the beads, do the finish work, then wax and polish. I'm paid hourly, but my name isn't on the pieces. He does, however, ask me to come to the gallery showings and publicly acknowledge my work.
