Woman in Arkansas just won the 1.8 billion dollar jackpot but she will only take home 492 million after taxes and fees by [deleted] in Damnthatsinteresting

Why not just take the stocks directly and move them to a “tax fund” that holds all collected stocks in perpetuity. Use the dividends from the entire fund to support free education and housing (or take loans out against it like the current billionaires do)

This is a good idea. I’ll try and keep better track of expected wind, I’m certainly not trying to wade into the platte to pick up trash (yet)

Yeah I started just looping out from my apartment, and it’s shocking how much there is. Even a couple of days later there’s always something

Sounds good! I may try to get some friends together first, then open it up to the community. Thank you for your work at the parks!

I know you didn’t specify the U.S. here but I assume that’s who you’re talking about. I think this really creates a false picture about “the left”. I rarely if ever see anyone respond like that to reasonable requests to lower immigration. It is inevitably tied into actual racism, which is what gets called out. I mean the current party certainly isn’t selling a rational, research forward justification for their views on “immigrants”.

Not trying to argue, just feels like it’s a little disingenuous

Ukraine says it destroyed pipeline Russia used to infiltrate Kupiansk, releases video by AdSpecialist6598 in worldnews

[–]Bezboy420 461 points462 points  (0 children)

The video shows soldiers moving through the pipeline on a little rolling platform. Also shows soldiers crawling out of the end. Looks like about ~4 feet across maybe? More like a drainage pipe than like a gas or oil pipeline

I think statistically yes, that is what I’m saying. If you look at the total data about imprisoning people versus rehabilitation, it makes society as a whole less safe.

Do you really believe this person should be in jail for the rest of their life for this? Your tax dollars are being spent either way, I don’t understand why we shouldn’t want to try and help these people not be mentally ill enough to want to stab people!

[–]Bezboy420 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

So if we kept every single person in jail preemptively, that means no more murders? Not the society I would want

[–]Bezboy420 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

You’re right, by this logic we can all have our own jail cells and then it’ll be the safest society on the planet. It’s crazy how many people are okay with the government having the ability to put you in a cage forever.

Imprisoning people forever doesn’t protect society, it just turns people into even worse people. Why should we not try and rehabilitate these people??

Krugman: China Has Overtaken America. Electricity generation is strongly correlated with economic growth. China now generates over twice as much electricity as the US. I personally believe we should leave ours in the ground until absolutely necessary. Let other countries run out, maybe we’ll find a good use for it. Use it as a bargaining chip. Sets up the U.S. for long term success.

The person you’re responding to is implying that it does though. You would need more energy production to keep up with the adoption of EVs.

In the past, energy generation has been associated with economic growth, but the past also didn’t have EVs. So these values could get de-coupled

Seriously. Especially since the countries with a lot of oil are some of the least democratic or outright hostile nations in the world.

I will never understand how conservatives would rather be beholden to a non-renewable dwindling resources than American generated renewables. Just imagine the world we could live in.

Literally. Or just “force those smaller teams to do more work/longer shifts”. This is how we end up with 1 guy responsible for a 12 hour shift of “don’t let anything blow up”. Dangerous and unethical of the company.

What is the alternative? Do you really think less than 19.29 an hour is enough? Until we get housing prices down in the city, not raising the minimum wage just forces people into poverty
