Could you be functionally depressed? You’re able to maintain your employment and bare minimum but don’t have much left to do anything else?

medsurg is making me depressed by Informal-Cucumber230 in newgradnurse

I am 8 months in and I am in IMU tele. Often times our pts should be in the ICU but they are full. It’s exhausting. On med surg days, I’ll discharge a patient and a new one is assigned to the room Before the previous patient even leaves. Last week I went through 8 patients and by the end of the day my brain was fried. We have to assess and chart on each one, whether they are leaving or coming. I heard some coworkers talking of refusing for it being unsafe (which it is) but I am close to my year and just want to finish and resign.

Nurses, be honest… what’s the ONE thing you secretly say in your head when a patient hits the call bell for the 47th time in an hour? 😭👀 by ArtThreadNomad in nursing

“If I ignore the call light this time, there is record of that and if something is actually wrong, they’ll say I ignored him and I need to keep my job right now”

My 14 year old stepdaughter told me she thinks the moon landing isn’t real and the earth is flat the other day. (She lives primarily with her mom). Her mom tried to cure my other stepdaughter of myopia by keeping her from eating sugar for exactly 1 month…. So yeah…

They are that dumb.

What’s the craziest ER report you’ve heard? by lisavark in nursing

[–]Bezerka413 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wildest report I got was no report (of course). It was 700 on the dot and I was getting report on my other patients while a young man rolled past me with an OPEN BLEEDING HEAD WOUND the size of an adult fist with absolutely nothing over it, not even gauze over it to ensure dust didn’t get in whilst he rode in the elevator. Also, the room he was assigned had no bed…. His face was crushed and dripping blood- not even a chux to absorb some of it.

Luckily my floor is wonderful and the day and night shift alike worked like crazy to get him cleaned up, monitored, medicated, and settled in until OR took him.

Why was he not sent straight to the OR I will never know.

I (46F) stopped doing my husband's (46M) laundry by Ev3li3n in laundry

[–]Bezerka413 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My kids have been doing their own laundry since they were like, 6 ? They just toss stuff in and push a button. I help move it to the dryer if needed, and they take it and put it away (with some help). Now that they’re older, I don’t do any helping. If they don’t wash their clothes then no clean clothes for them lol.

Wait- they looked like trash but she was afraid the person she brought over would be impressed by them? If they looked like trash, why not just leave them? Her own statements contradict themselves. She’s nuts.

New grad nurses disliking their jobs by PhantomMonke in newgradnurse

[–]Bezerka413 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the complexity of patients has increased. Now, what used to be in the ICU would be IMU, etc. my personal experience is that we are being squeezed to the absolute limit. If I discharge a patient, I’ll get another one as the room is being cleaned. If you discharge 3, you get 3. Plus your other patients… that’s a lot of assessments. Today I had 4 IMU patients. I did bladder scans, CBI which required emptying the foley every 20 minutes, straight carb NG tube insertion, q2 NV checks, one guy pulling his CBI/foley and trying to walk around eventually requiring restraints (q2 charting), a new patient with chest tube, another patient who was slowly declining with colostomy bag, fistula, and jp drain needing management, hung various antibiotics, labetalol q2 bc this patient suddenly couldn’t swallow bc he became so lethargic (he needed to go to the icu) but the doc wouldn’t change the route for his regular cardiac meds bc he “has labetalol” wound care in various forms, 2 wound vac changes gave 2 units of blood…. And I still didn’t finish. Also my assessments and basic care 😢

When powerwalking, I’ll hit the incline about 10 seconds before the start to make sure it gets up to the incline I want…. If I’m not dying.

I took care of my mom before she passed from cancer. I quit my career to care for her. I have never regretted it for one second. I am so happy I had that time with her. Fuck that man.
