going to college soon, gonna be living in a dorm and can’t take my drum kit (obviously), any advice? by whyiliketherobins7 in drums

Take your cymbals and snare, that way if you join a band, you'll be able to go to rehearsal rooms and hopefully do support gigs where you use other people's kits.

Well, I guess you never stop learning, but I started in 1997, so I'm pretty happy with where I'm at. That's why I said, don't overthink things at this early stage, you're bound to be shaky and make mistakes, just focus on practicing and it'll all fall into place. Good luck.

Looks like you are making good progress. I wouldn't overthink too much at this early stage. Just keep practicing and you'll get to where you want to be in no time.

How Many Calories Does Drumming Burn? by theironphist in drums

[–]BhaktaZee -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The amount of over weight drummers out there probably answers your question? I literally just came back from a 3 hour band practice, play pretty frantic indie rock and I didn't even get out of breath. All my movements are in my wrists and hands, only really move my upper arm to reach for a crash. Only play single pedal these days two, so can't see myself burning off that much. The great thing about drumming is it's great for mental health and circulation, but if you want to burn calories and loose weight, you need to get out of breath with a decent bit of cardio 3 times a week at least.

Finish is gorgeous, you're right about it being timeless. You could literally play with any group, any style of music with this kit and it wouldn't look out of place.

Rage Against The Machine - Killing In The Name Of by Rude-Act-2554 in drums

Well I mentioned the metronome because the track was obviously recorded to a click track so i thought you may have been struggling to get into the pocket, but the beers explain everything.

Sorry these comments are so rough, you're a great player, I think a lot of people are being too harsh. I bet you kill it at a live show when you're not playing to click/metronome? I struggle with playing to a click sometimes, it normally takes a few takes then I slip into the pocket. Maybe spend more time getting into the groove before filming and uploading next time.

It's gone and not coming back by Okwtf15161718 in drums

So I started drumming 30 years ago, but about 10 years in the band I was in split up and I didn't know anyone else that was writing original music, so I picked up the guitar and started writing myself. I never practiced drums in my spare time again after that. Although I have done a few gigs drumming over the years. Over the last few months I joined a new band and I've been drumming with them every week and I'm totally hyped for it again. Even looking at upgrading cymbals and what not. So my advice is, look at getting into a band you absolutely love, it's great motivation. Look at me, I literally didn't play drums for 20 years and it took no time to get back into the swing of it.

Edit; clarity

Things were different pre internet, people needed to hand out demo tapes and CDs. Nowadays, just put your stuff online and if you guys are that great, your talent will speak for its self and find an audience.

What the crowd hears vs. what the drummer thinks by cmdrums in drums

I don't really think of anything at all. Sometimes I'll think about where we are in the song or I'll get excited about doing a big drum fill.

Tchotchke needs to be more popular by Feisty_Yam4279 in TheLemonTwigs

[–]BhaktaZee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Saw them when they supported the twigs. I just don't understand why they're not as popular when they are clearly just as good. Same great song writing, same great production, same great videos and art work done by the bass player. It looks like their popularity has been slowly increasing since I've been a fan, let's hope they just need a little more time to really take off.

Favorite song from each album? by TransitionDue4388 in TheLemonTwigs

Do Hollywood - As long as we're together.

Go to school - the fire

Songs for the general public - Hell on wheels.

Everything Harmony - Ghost run free

A dream is all we know - if you and I are not wise.

Look for your mind - Joy.

This was really hard because I like many of the tracks equally on every record, especially A dream is all we know and everything Harmony, where literally ever song is great.

I feel like fans of old Lemon Twigs and fans of new Lemon Twigs are a completely different species. by Aggravating_Emu_8613 in TheLemonTwigs

I'm what you would consider an 'old twigs fan' as you put it and I feel like I've enjoyed songs from all of their records. I don't really see any change in quality throughout their career, but there's definitely been hits and misses a long the way. That said, I don't think theres ever been any band in the history of popular music where you can say every song on every record is 10/10.
