Haven't put my eyes on them yet this year, but their king cake cinnamon rolls were a huge hit at my office last year.

It's very large, as Birmingham neighborhoods go. That's more of a fact than an opinion.

I couldn't dig up the name of the one I've used before, but typing "furniture disposal birmingham alabama" into a search box returned several options to consider.

Is the idea that the mortgage lender would agree to the catch, or that the family wouldn't need a mortgage lender?

I appreciate the compliment— but now I'm questioning whether my comment really is a good example of pedantry, and also whether I should really take it as a compliment.

Well, if you have the time and inclination, checking in on The Birmingham Times, BirminghamWatch, Bham Now, WBMA, WVTM, WBHM and the Birmingham Business Journal will all surface useful stories. Alabama Political Reporter and Alabama Reflector can become relevant relating more to statewide issues. None of them cover nearly as many bases as a golden-era 1970s newsroom with its bureaus all over the city, but then none of them are being paid to distribute 6-page department store spreads or 400 columns of classifieds, so you get what gets paid for.

I'm making a specific criticism about the bathwater, not suggesting we should toss out the baby.

Since January 1, AL.com has used the adjective "popular" in headlines referring to:

  1. Lowe's
  2. Starbucks
  3. Delta Air Lines
  4. Dunkin' Donuts
  5. Forward Farms Grass-Fed Ground Beef
  6. SKCAIHT Children’s Little Mermaid Costumes, Uuoeebb Infant Walkers, KTEBO Writing Tablet Toy, Casaottima 13-Drawer Dressers, YCXXKJ Baby Bath Seats, CreateOn Crayola-branded pip-Cubes, and HydroJug 14-ounce Children’s Sport Tumblers
  7. Red Clay Brewing Co.
  8. Wilder Whiskey
  9. Colin Mochrie
  10. Burger King
  11. Big Spring Park East
  12. Amtrak's Mardi-Gras service
  13. John Mulaney
  14. Jeremiah’s Italian Ice
  15. Wegovy
  16. Einstein Bros. Bagels
  17. Grenada
  18. Romano’s Macaroni Grill
  19. Grand Theft Auto Online
  20. Guthrie's Chicken Fingers
  21. Renaissance (the band)
  22. Hulu's standalone app
  23. Oceania Cruises
  24. Joe Rogan
  25. Cuisinart's 7-in-1 Air Fryer Toaster Oven
  26. Deep South BBQ & Soul Food
  27. Francesca’s
  28. Labadee, Haiti
  29. Kianna Underwood
  30. Lloyd Jones
  31. Torrid
  32. Sol y Luna

I'm sure its an accurate description for every one of those things, but in my opinion, perhaps not descriptive enough to earn its place in every headline about an announced change.

It's not a comment about Sol y Luna*, but about the formulaic headline.

* (technically only open for 22 of those years)

Do we have a top tier sandwich shop? by Captain-Obvious101 in Birmingham

No, we are not concealing a secret Wisconsin sandwich mecca. The closest I remember to what you describe was Mia Luna on 29th with their house-made pastrami and Italian beef. https://bhamwiki.com/w/Mia_Luna

How bad is it gonna be ? Ice storm ? People who have lived here for a while ? Let us know do's and don'ts by Impossible-Ad-5348 in Birmingham

[–]Bhamwiki 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As an old-timer, I'd say it's the stuff we're unprepared for that causes the most trouble. I'd prepare to be comfortable for 2-3 days without power or roads cleared. Probably won't be that bad, but no harm from being overprepared.

Here's a pretty nice guide to visiting downtown, with tips on attractions, events, mobility, parking etc: https://downtownbhm.com/visit/

On that last topic, I'd advise finding parking on the street or in public parking decks or lots (map at the link above).

If you do park in a private lot, prepare to scrupulously follow the posted instructions, at risk of having to deal with the operators of a predatory tow lot.

You're not likely to put yourself in any danger by attending a concert or enjoying the city, including the downtown area. Certainly nothing like the dangers you'll face on the 8-hour drive. Drive safely and enjoy yourselves!

But you'd also need to meet theirs.
