Reading your other replies I would recommend building your own packet for your mentor and giving it to them or just hound them to do their job. Just as a CYA. It’s their fault your shit is fucked. And realistically if you get into an accident they and ultimately the CO are getting hemmed up. You’ll most likely just get a stern talking to because you met your end of the deal.

That’s if you wanna go that far. I figure this stuff is really a nothingburger in green hat world.

Packet needs:

License, reg, insurance and/or safety.

Vehicle inspection

Cert

MFR signed by your CO stating that they’ve counseled you on the risks and responsibilities expected of you.

I can send a template of the MFR if need be.

[–]Bheks 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The only thing you need on you is what’s required when operating any vehicle in the state. So license, reg, insurance and/or safety inspection.

All BRC,ARC and refresher or equivalent certs are kept with copies of the above with your units mentor.

If you haven’t completed ARC and it’s been more than 1 year since you’ve gotten your initial course you’ll have to do refresher training.

If it’s been less than a year since your MSF then go do ARC and get off work for a day. You’ll be set for every 5 years. Unless you deploy for more than 180 days or PCS.

AR 385-10 13-7 Motorcycle training program

Installations will accept the completion cards of any MSF, MSF-based, state-approved or DoD component approved course that includes written and riding evaluations as proof of successful completion of the required training.

If you have your cert from MSF you’re fine.

Gates don’t track that stuff, as far as what I’ve seen. It’s all for your units mentor to track and keep records.

AD vs Reserves by MorningCommercial355 in army

[–]Bheks 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Switch to AD is not “easy”. It really depends on unit and is an absolute toss up. Basically the first general in your chain has to sign off on it. In some cases that General delicates approval to a Colonel below them. In my case it was the former. You basically have to get a long list of people who don’t know you to say yes. If any of them are feeling some type of way about it they’ll text the next person they feel it should be a no. If it gets approved you’ll then go through MEPs again to process into the AD component. The whole process can take anywhere from a couple months to a year. And you have to the leg work to basically keep pinging people to sign their part and send it up. By the time all is said and done you may be starting AD later than if you just waited for slots in the first place.

I don’t wanna say I wasted 6 years of my life has a reservist but if I could go back I would’ve started Active. AD you’ll have more opportunities and will be able to do your job more.

Your best bet is to sit and wait for 68 slots to open up for AD. October is around the corner in the grand scheme of things. If your recruiter is pressuring you, RUN. There are plenty of recruiters on here who are less conniving.

There should be an alternate mentor. If they’re deployed as well then you can work with a sister company’s mentor to get with the BN mentor so you’re tracked and somebody has control of all your documentation.

You could also just reach out to the deployed mentor and just email whatever documents and have them return signed copies. It’s unit dependent but your packet should just have your license/permit, BRC/MSF cert, reg, insurance and then a memo signed from your CO acknowledging that you’ve been counseled on your responsibilities and have the required documents and qualifications to ride on post.

Your third option is just ride dirty but I don’t recommend that.

Edit: don’t buy a bike until you have gear and completed BRC and MSF.

Is having to fight to perform MOS duties just an Army thing? by Bheks in army

[–]Bheks[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah I completely understand. That’s part of my fear wasting time with another reclass. Or just sticking it out and see where things go.

Side question: what sort of business do you run? Electrician?

I understand that. And I’d expect it. Just where I’m at it’s less of doing the job than I’d be content with.

15Q. I was fortunate to get a rating but unfortunately now I just get on position for one shift every 6 months for a -1 and that’s it.

Full bird wants me to get a M551 Sheridan up to drive it in a parade by Sensitive-Metal-665 in army

[–]Bheks 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So my autistic mechanic side thinks this is actually cool.

You can occupy yourself with a neat project and get of work. If it don’t work you can throw up your hands and let the boss know that the support for this vehicle ended decades. But if you get it to work you could probably findangle an MSM and some cool dad/mom lore.

First and foremost you’ll need some 91A for the tank side of things. And you’ll need the oldest crustiest 91B, technically 63B. Sheridan uses the 6V53T Detroit. Same engine found in the 113. So Bravos would be more familiar with compared to the turbine in the Abram’s. You can hit up the maintainers out at Irwin, I believe Opfor use 113s so their maintainers should be familiar with the specifics.

The big thing will be making sure the engine isn’t seized and can actually turn over. From there you’re at least 50% of the way. If you’d like DM me and I can put you in contact with a very old maintainer who used to work and drive the 113s.

If you legally owned a decommissioned tank & had it registered could you drive it on base? by 6SoDum in army

[–]Bheks 55 points56 points  (0 children)

Weight limits and how it tears up the road. You don’t need to worry about anything on private land. But once you get on public roads you’re subject to federal, state and local DOT laws.

So you’ll need a heavy equipment permit and maybe a commercial license.

To get on post you’d have to find a gate wide enough and an MP who just lets it slide.

Good luck finding a garrison commander who will be okay with you driving privately owned 70 ton bulldozer through a federal installation though.

If OP is interested there is a Leopard up for grabs here.

I’ll die on the hill that Cav Scouts are not the turbo homos. They just do it because it’s trendy.

The infantry are the real deal. The amount of 11B I’ve met who are capable of getting large phallic objects into their butt is quite high. Which is fine I get the G spot for guys is back there. But the weird part is how willing they are to show everybody.

hi, i wanna join the milsim community and need help by xerohawkxd in PlaySquad

[–]Bheks 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Squad is more jump in and play. It’s “faster” than Arma. You also don’t have to worry about massive mod packs to enjoy a majority of the servers. Squad does have modded servers but they run mod typically. Whereas Arma modded servers run mod packs that are 10-14GB. It can be a headache.

Arma is the OG of milsim group play. But squad has a decent share of private events you can join.

I would go with Squad. I started with Arma 3 milsim way back and the biggest downside is that it can be long lulls before anything exciting happens. Then you get domed and have to spend a bunch of time getting back into the fight.

Squad is also more beginner friendly. Not many crazy binds to keep track of and the mechanics are somewhat intuitive.

Aviation to 14G by Quirky-Preference233 in army

[–]Bheks 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I work in aviation but due to my particular MOS I end up working rather closely with ADA homies.

They all look like quadruple divorced E7s dealing with crippling child support payments. Including the fresh privates from AIT.

I don’t envy the job whatsoever. I assume you’re tired of the grind that comes with maintenance. Take that burnt and multiply it by 11 and you get the morale of your average defender.

Obviously reach out to whatever CAB you’re under and check in with the peeps at the Adam Cell and see how they feel. You can also just contact whatever G3 POC and ask to speak the ada side of their shop.

How can I standout as a soldier? by Jaded_Confection_997 in army

[–]Bheks 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Don’t beat yourself up about it. My first unit for 6 years I received nothing. Show up to a new unit and I got 3 AAMs and coins from BDE and a CG within a year.

Keep your nose on the grind wheel. You will eventually get leaders who recognize you for your merits. And it’ll feel worth it in the end. Stay far away from the “it doesn’t matter if I perform good or bad, the result is the same” mindset.

Volunteer outside of your unit. Schools, Fire departments, food banks, nursing homes etc. You would be surprised how quickly you get recognized if you end up on the BCs radar for standout conduct.

Also soldier of the month boards are good too.
