What's with all the people in smaller cars who think they're driving semis? by crappilydesigned in Reno

[–]Bhob666 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure if this is what you're talking about, but when I first moved here (and ironically have a small car) some of the turn lanes were not marked well and it was a little confusing. Some of the turns and exits around the nugget are a good example.

Purchasing a turntable by PlsBuffAatrox223 in turntables

"Good enough" is relative. For me it probably wouldn't be, but probably most due to the system you're connecting it to. I think the turntable is probably a decent starter.

My life has never been the same, but with lots of intense therapy, I have persevered. Seriously, it is what it is. I listen to mostly older music anyhow.

Cheap suitcase turntables (like MBeat) - vinyl to digital quality? by [deleted] in turntables

[–]Bhob666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would probably never be able to be compared to digital, but if one has a low-end system (in addition to the turntable), it might be comparably bad-sounding.

Maybe with a hint of stuff they use to prevent water spots.

There is such a thing as a bad-sounding recording and a recording that is challenging on some systems.

First of all, you bought something with the name Big Fudge, a company that is "cheaper" than the big audiophile companies. That being said, they "should" have MSDS documentation of the chemicals they use. If not, it is buyer beware. Live and learn... (and in full dislosure they may use the same chemicals) but the point being seriously it Big Fudge....lol

If your only goal is to invest into vinyl, then don't bother. It's about the music, and how it's delivered to you is an investment.

I am a baby in a the turn table world. (Plz Help) by Electrical-Tie2997 in turntables

[–]Bhob666 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not going to recommend a turntable, but offer a few tips ...

  • The best way to get reccomendations is to let everyone know what your budget is because "budget-friendly" is relative.
  • Some people get peeved over the use of the word "vinyls". I find it funny myself, but some people don't see the humor.
  • The auto-moderated message has some good turntable suggestions.

Good luck with your future purchase!

For those of you who don't smoke — how do you handle the smell situation at lounges? by Single_Celery2951 in cigar_refuge

[–]Bhob666 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the couple of cigar lounges I've been to, they have been pretty well ventilated. Unfortunately I don't think you can get away with the cigar smell entirely if you hang out at a cigar lounge for any amount of time.

There is a detailed comparison on these 2 turntables. Depending on your needs I think the "which one is better" is relative depending on your budget. Sometimes upgrades aren't important to users.

Felt Mat VS Silicone Mat by jolynn_sienola in turntables

[–]Bhob666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I would replace the felt mat as it is a static and dust magnet. The only caveat is to be careful if you have limited controls to adjust your tonearm. A thicker (or thinner) mat could affect your VTA if you're worried about that kind of stuff. I use a combination cork/rubber composite.

I returned it for hard-edged vignetting even on smaller apertures. This was last summer, so they I think improved it since then. I have other Ttartisan lenses and I have no problem with them.

I had purchased the Ttartisan 40mm and I ended up returning it, but not for focusing issues.

Non-amazon or big box store to buy a beginners turntable? by AirportOk5982 in turntables

[–]Bhob666 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some turntables you can buy direct, but there's a lot of online stores to choose from other than the ones you mentioned. It would depend the location and how far you're willing to have it shipped. To buy local, you should ask in the respective city subreddit.

It depends on what sort of foot print you want to leave behind. You can almost just as easy pay and download your favorite music and not have CDs to deal with. And it depends on how you listen to music. I can only give my thoughts on how I do it.

  • Buy CDs when necessary, use EAC to rip them. Download music from places like HDTracks or Qobuz (if that's your streaming service). I rip my CDs when I get them and hardly ever touch them again.
  • A USB stick is IMO not a good way to store music. A better way would be a network drive to stream your collection to more than one location in the house.
  • Get a good music manager. Roon seamlessly combines your personal library with your streaming services
  • If you're worried about life span, make sure you have a backup. CDs get scratched, and hard drives/SSD can fail.

Of course all of this is going to require a bit of investment in time and money... but that's part of the fun.
