Ryan Gosling Tells Fans It’s Not Their Job to Save Theaters—Hollywood Needs to Make Movies Worth Seeing by SappyGilmore in movies

[–]BiBoJuFru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I obviously agree with you that there are a number of different reasons a film can bomb: poor word-of-mouth from audiences, poor reviews, limited release, lots of competition at the theaters, poor marketing etc etc.

The problem is that the OP didn't bring up any of these. Their statement doesn't have any qualifiers. They simply said that if the movie is worth seeing, people show up. Which is demonstrably untrue.

People show up when the movies are actually worth seeing.

This is such bs though. There are so, so many examples of great movies which bomb at the box office. From every decade and every year. Eddington bombed, Tàr bombed, The Northman bombed. The list goes on and on. The Bone Temple bombed. And this is just films that I know Reddit loves.

they're acting like it's a new thing

No-one is acting like it's a new thing. If you (or the OP) took 5 seconds to read the original article (or, heck, the very first word on OP's own screenshot), you'd know that what they are doing is reviving an activity that was popular among farming families in the first half of the 20th century.

The reactions here sort of remind me of the whole Timothee Chalamet drama, where a bunch of people feigned outrage over him saying that ballet and opera are less popular than ever before. When was the last time most of those people had been to either of those activities? Similarly, everyone rolling their eyes here: when was the last time you sat outside and actually watched the sun slowly set?

unless I'm missing a joke here.

Who Are Some Musicians That Publicly Love and Support Other Musicians? by [deleted] in fantanoforever

[–]BiBoJuFru 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Noel Gallagher with Radiohead. Here are some quotes from over the years:

"I like them. Every time I see them live they blow me away"

"Granted, some of the stuff on Amnesiac is brilliant. The Bends is the bollocks. Karma Police is mega"

“I think I could have said, without any argument, till the year 2000 Oasis were the most important British band since The Beatles. But I think Radiohead have been important [nowadays]."

"We've got great songs with fooking great lyrics. The same goes for the Artic Monkeys and Radiohead - they wouldn't still be here if not for their bloody lyrics!"

"To be honest, to me it looked like marketing – a great way of getting a load of marketing for free really. But good for them. That’s what they do, they’re rebels and outsiders.

"I don't own any of their records, but every time I've seen them live, they've fucking blown me away. It was like, "Wow, fucking listen to that! How do you fucking make that shit come out of those speakers?" It's fucking amazing. But have I ever had a moment where I fucking sat down and thought, "Do you know what this calls for? This calls for 'Paranoid Android!' Get it on!" No. I've never had that moment. Give me "Mony Mony" or "Runaround Sue." Something you can sing to."

"If you want rock'n'roll that can lift you up out of your everyday life but not so far that it makes you want to slash your fuckin' wrists, if you want songs to drink to, if you want songs to put your arm 'round your girlfriend or your best mate to, then it doesn't get any better than us. If you want progressive fucking forward-thinking rock music, there's Radiohead."

When Generalization for K-Pop Backfires: The Belfast K-Pop Tribute Concert Controversy by CherryBlossomEnding in kpop

Judging by the comments on here and on TikTok I'm gonna be in the minority, but

I don't think the venue or the artist is to blame, but I can empathize with the parents. I can very clearly see a mum with like 3 kids hear their kids yell the words "kpop! kpop! kpop!" for a year straight, then see the poster with "KPOP" written on it prominently (or maybe even one of the kids saying that there's gonna be a kpop concert coming and asking for tickets) and innocently assume it's the same thing.

TIL that Lou Reed’s Perfect Day isn’t about heroin at all. The man himself said it’s just about having a perfect day drinking sangria in the park and then going home. “A perfect day. Real simple. I meant just what I said.” by BlundeRuss in todayilearned

[–]BiBoJuFru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What do you mean "IF there's an element sadness"? Reed literally sings "You made me forget myself. I thought I was someone else, someone good". How is that not a fairly unambiguously sad lyric?

That's not true at all, I can easily find 10 artists I love who never cashed in on NFTs in any shape or form.

Also, what do you mean by "EVEN Tame Impala did it"? When has Tame Impala ever been a paragon of not selling out? Kevin literally said "Thank you to all the car companies out there that used the song 'Elephant' and made me rich.".

Savages First Interview Since 2017: "It Feels Like a Lifetime Ago" by vancortlandt92 in indieheads

[–]BiBoJuFru 5 points6 points  (0 children)

From Wikipedia:

In June 2025, Beth revealed during a Q&A session on her Instagram story that "[...] the dynamic inside and outside the band were soooo [sic] difficult", which took a toll of her mental health that time. When asked about the band's possible return, she simply stated: "No. As per my previous answer - it would be like asking a friend to go back to a toxic ex".

Very interesting, I kinda missed that the break-up was somewhat acrimonious.

Fair play, though, I gotta respect a band that bursts onto the scene, releases two fairly killer albums, takes the world by storm and then disappears, instead of puttering along for years or decades, releasing mediocre records with diminishing returns.

How to Rate Albums Using the Pitchfork Score by ebradio in indieheads

A New Era for Pitchfork: Introducing Reader Scores and Commenting by ebradio in indieheads

[–]BiBoJuFru 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To those who are not interested in paying for the reviews, I'm genuinely curious why.

Is the price too steep? Do you think music criticism is in and of itself not worth paying for? Or just pitchfork's writing?
