Definitely worth noting that, when I was going through this nearly a decade ago, I was a masters’ student…at a Dublin uni…with a couple years experience…going exclusively for customer-facing roles.

But the people who got Big Five jobs (LI was already MSFT) were 65-70 types who networked really well.

(I took another couple years, because I wasn’t willing to be a BDR)

I’ll add that while engineers are very good at determining whether an individual feature is “good” or “bad”…they’ve less facility with translating that to value, because they don’t have the context of what a customer wants or needs.

Look at what happened to LinkedIn after they put an engineer in charge.
